A powerful panel at #MES2025 brought together leading experts to discuss Urban Resilience Infrastructure — Water, Sanitation & Circular Economy. From flood management to sustainable waste systems, the panel highlighted the urgent need for smarter, greener solutions. #MES2025

Mohamed Abdisatar showcased smart flood-control engineering at #MES2025 including permeable pavement blocks that let rainwater infiltrate instead of flooding streets. A simple but powerful solution for reducing runoff, filtering pollutants, and keeping Mogadishu walkable.

Farah Abdinor Ahmed DG General, Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing. “Urban growth without proper planning creates its own crisis.” He stressed the need for planned housing, stronger regulations & climate-ready infrastructure to meet Mogadishu’s rapid expansion.

Mohamed Nor Hassan, National Coordinator for NAGAAD Project (SURP II) noted that Mogadishu’s old sewage system wasn’t built for today’s population now overwhelmed and driving flooding, pollution, and health risks. He stressed that modernizing the city’s infrastructure is urgent.
