But when you find out her real name is Thando Sibanyoni, and her dad is the legendary taxi tycoon Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni—a man sitting on a massive 400-taxi empire—the narrative shifts. Suddenly, "Thando Nje nje" feels less like an artistic choice and more like a clever screen to hide a massive safety net. It makes you think about how many incredible, raw talents are getting iced out in the townships because they don't have the backing of a trust fund or a legacy surname. From DBN Gogo to Nciza’s son, the industry is heavily gatekept by nepotism and deep pockets. Can we blame them for using their privilege? Honestly, no. Any parent with power will clear a path for their child, and changing a surname isn't always about deceit—sometimes it’s a desperate attempt to be judged on your own merits instead of your family’s reputation. Connections can open the door, but they can't buy genuine soul or stage presence. The talent is there. Still, the frustration of the ordinary, unconnected artist is 100% valid. It’s hard to compete with people who are playing the game on "Easy Mode" while you’re singing just to put food on the table. Privilege doesn't mean you lack talent, but it absolutely means you didn't have to bleed for the spotlight. Are we supporting the music, or are we just buying into the marketing of well-connected trust-fund babies? 💔
