After 15 years as our constant companion, our sweet girl has "diminished and gone into the West". She was the best hound dog. We were so lucky to have had her for so long in great health. A peaceful and well-earned end. Love you, Bella Blue Lou Barker!

I won’t lie, many of you laugh at this, but she’s catering to people who likely can’t or don’t have time to mess around in the kitchen. The pages are easy to follow and make meals easily. We need to stop thinking through privileged and able-bodied lenses.

@ask_aubry Neatness problems and risk of maiming aside, it's HORRIBLE for your knives to be clashing and banging around with all that metal. Even a crappy Dollartree paring knife will work better without all that.

@_nomadic_soul This. Only change i would have made is to stir in a bag of frozen veggies. Depending on the kids' tastes, you can either sneak them with corn or cauliflower, or brighten it with mixed veggies or peas & carrots.

I’m confused. This is a pretty great crockpot recipe that’s not fried, over-processed, and contains both a carb and LOTS of protein which can be hard to get kids to eat - AND HER KIDS EAT IT?? What’s the issue??

Back home now, trying to fit myself back into regular life with this aching hole in it. Gotta get my granddaughter off to school and face the rest of the day.

Coroner is finally done. They're in there saying their goodbyes. I HATE this for them.

I'm back at the homestead for the worst reason yet. My step-grandson took his own life. He was 13. I'm at the point where the why's and wherefores pale in the shadow of the fact that beautiful bright soul is gone, and there's nothing to be done to change it.
