The same when they thought they wouldn’t make it off Alcatraz. The same on their wedding day, when everything felt unreal, and Chris looked devastating in his tux. Silent understanding. Everything unsaid, already known. Chris pulled Leon into a hug — tight, grounding, pouring into it more than words ever could. They’d probably argue later. About Leon being reckless. About Chris worrying too much. But right now, it didn’t matter. There was only them. The kitchen light. And a quiet promise. “Hold me so I know you’re still there.”
