Something I'm proud of this year @avid_podcast #SciComm First things I thought of: 1. Organising the @Monash_SEG field trip to eastern Victoria goldfields with @Fernanda_ANeves, @Gan77513599 and @iamrockrat 2. Being asked to write a reference😊 twitter.com/Monash_SEG/sta…

On the second day of our #FieldTrip, we visited the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine, with a tour led by manager Geoff Anderson. Steeply-dipping reef still visible. No visible gold remains in the mine. Our thanks to our sponsors PGN pgn.com.au and @SocietyEconGeol!

All Cu ore deposits in Australia are hosted by Precambrian and Paleozoic rocks, more than 250 million years old! In Australia and the rest of the world, chalcopyrite is the principal ore mineral of copper. 2/2 For more detail on porphyry Cu, see: twitter.com/Monash_SEG/sta…

Second in our series on Porphyry Copper! Alteration is zoned upward from sodic-calcic to potassic, chlorite-sericite, to advanced argillic alteration. Advanced argillic alteration constitutes lithocaps, (can be > 1 km thick), making it challenging to explore these deposits!

More on copper (Cu)!! Australia is one of the top world’s Cu producers, with around 13% of total reported resources globally. Cu ore deposits are located nationwide, with the main ones are the Olympic Dam deposit in SA and Mount Isa deposit in Qld. Source: @GeoscienceAus 1/2
