On the second day of our #FieldTrip, we visited the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine, with a tour led by manager Geoff Anderson. Steeply-dipping reef still visible. No visible gold remains in the mine. Our thanks to our sponsors PGN pgn.com.au and @SocietyEconGeol!

Second in our series on Porphyry Copper! Alteration is zoned upward from sodic-calcic to potassic, chlorite-sericite, to advanced argillic alteration. Advanced argillic alteration constitutes lithocaps, (can be > 1 km thick), making it challenging to explore these deposits!

More on copper (Cu)!! Australia is one of the top world’s Cu producers, with around 13% of total reported resources globally. Cu ore deposits are located nationwide, with the main ones are the Olympic Dam deposit in SA and Mount Isa deposit in Qld. Source: @GeoscienceAus 1/2
