Jamie Imhof needed an immediate liver transplant to save her life. But, transplant centers follow an informal “rule” when it comes to patients whose livers fail due to heavy alcohol use. Jamie would not be eligible for a new liver for six months.

Unconscious and severely burned, Andrea Rubin was being kept alive on a ventilator after a car accident. She'd need many surgeries to make it. Her father told doctors to do everything they could to keep her alive. Her friends told doctors Andrea wouldn't want to live this way.
