This is strange, as I was just thinking about this historical fact the other day, in accordance with Lord Acton's famous quote, "Power tends to corrupt, & absolute power corrupts absolutely." Authoritarianism always starts with the utterance, "Oh the good I could do with more power," where as Washington & Cincinnatus were circumspect and understood this concept many years prior to Acton capturing it.
