lol My mates and I are doctors in our 20s/30s/40s starting off our careers. Absolutely everyone is gobsmacked at the budget changes. Genuinely feels like our generation will get punished for working smart or hard. None of us own investment properties yet - what’s the point now? How do we get ahead now? What was the financial incentive to sacrifice our 20s to train? It feels like all the worst aspects of communism with none of the benefits….. No incentivised housing/travel/childcare for doctors No one in my group is having kids Yet our alcoholic patients are on their 4th or 5th - supported via government programs What a joke Speedrunning civilisational demise

One of the most difficult things for anglophones to understand about learning Japanese is the relative CHASM between speaking/ listening skills and reading/ writing skills. It is entirely possible to be great at one and awful at the other to an absurd degree.

the interesting thing about japanese in the language learning space is that you have 2 very different groups of people. you have weebs and otakus trying to learn the language and then you also have "my new years resolution is to learn Japanese!" people

@AndyKavna I’m doing my best to improve my reading/writing skills now for the JLPT N1 exam. There’s so much idiotic toxicity and competitiveness among the online Japanese language learning community though that I don’t post about it anymore. They make it their entire personality.

@AtemiyaShinobu As someone who can just understand hiragana and katakana, I don't know if reading would actually help until I build up a vocabulary first. But if you have books that you would suggest please let me know

One of the fastest way’s to get better at reading Japanese is to read things slightly above your skill level, You should look at certain series as opportunities to increase your vocabulary pool. You can’t learn Archaic, Formal, Fantasy or slang without reading series with it.
