@Mooslings @d_bahler @banterwithb the "best people you've ever known" ARE the "worst people possible"
they just know to hold their tongues in polite company
they won't say it to your face, but they're thinking it
(sorry to burst your bubble)

Orthobros, we need to have a real candid talk for a minute.
We've been out here defending ourselves for a while against accusations of " Orthobro" behavior.
We thought these guys were talking about us, and complaining about us.
It's coming to our attention now that there's something going on that we weren't really properly aware of. I think we all knew this was kind of going on, but we didn't realize how extensive the problem actually is.
We have a large number of anonymous accounts who play act as Orthodox Christians, but are anything but. Don't be too quick to react here, because I'm talking about a very specific thing
I'm talking about the guys who go around saying horrible things, behaving in such a way that all of us would condemn and often do condemn when we see it.
People out there are getting confused, because they see us pushing back against " orthobro" nonsense, and they think we're defending this behavior. But that's not what any of us are doing.
I'm calling on all of us to have a serious look on this, and really crack down on these Anonymous accounts with Orthodox crosses in their names and bios.
It is our duty as Orthodox Christians to guard the dignity and honor of the Orthodox Church, and she is the bride of Christ and she is precious. Let us not be slack in our duty.

@Mooslings @sarahdunham23 I took a look at your profile and saw that you’re a loving mother and grandmother. I wish more Orthodox families and pillars like you holding up the generations. God bless you and your beautiful family.

One of the things that attracted me to orthodoxy the most (after my husband learned about the theology and the history) was the humbleness and humility of the people. Kids in hand me down clothes…moms and dads wearing simple outfits. Living in small homes and driving older (paid off) cars to avoid going into debt. Living modestly so the mom can stay home and raise the children. Having large families and making ends meet on a small salary. Thrifting, making food from scratch, not worried about keeping up with the Jones’s. And some of the purest, kindest hearts you could ever find. From the day I walked in to my Parrish, the people there made me feel so at home and so welcome. I’ve made wonderful friendships there…if my family even so much as catches a cold, the other moms are coming together to provide meals and help around the home. We meet together and talk about theology, how to be Godly wives and mothers, and family life. I’ve never even heard them so much as try to gossip about anyone…which is something I cannot say about my previous experience at church.
No one is boasting their money. No one is required to “pay for sacraments.” Everyone is there to do one thing - to worship Christ and be of the body of Christ’s church. To show Christ’s love for one another.

@Thomasdelvasto_ I give them a dollar if I have one handy and I ask THEM to pray for ME. Gets them talking to God, which is needful.

@Mooslings I think I’m trying to work through my frustration with the situation and figure out how I should respond.

@Nazumejud I wonder if your wife feels some guilt for leaving her son every day and has some resentment towards your mom because she mothers him and he loves her.

AM I WRONG FOR CHOOSING MY MOTHER OVER MY WIFE?
My wife and I have a son who is about to turn five. For years, my parents, mostly my mother, have provided full time childcare at no cost. She follows every rule we set, no screens, no sweets, routines exactly as asked, and our son adores her. We genuinely could not afford daycare, and even if we could, it would not compare. Recently, we learned my parents have been quietly paying my older brother’s rent.
He has a long history of poor choices, and my wife made a sharp comment about favoritism and how the problem child always gets rewarded. My mother snapped back hard, saying she spends forty hours a week caring for our child and can do whatever she wants with her money, even waste it entirely. The language was intense and shocked everyone. My wife demanded an apology. My mother apologized for the wording but doubled down on the message, saying her finances are not up for debate……..

"Do you agree that we are saved only by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?"
"Yup."
"And if we have a true saving faith in Christ, we obey Him and always strive to fulfill His commands?"
"Yup."
"And He commands us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, help the orphan and the widow?"
"Yup."
"So then if we have the opportunity to do these things, we *must* do them to the best of our ability?"
"No! That's works-based salvation. You're trying to earn your way into Heaven. I trust in the finished work of Christ."

@Mooslings Me and my priest talk about these things casually all the time. I just saw him today.

@paisiosdavis @OrthodoxLatin88 @bannedpastor @JayDyer This isn’t true and you need to admit it and apologize.
English

@bannedpastor This is true. Every single Orthodox church charges $250 for baptism and none of them will waive the fee if you can't afford it. This is a fair, intelligent critique of Orthodoxy and no one thinks you're desperately lashing out after @JayDyer spanked you in that debate.
