I've thought about this before, but reading this with my morning coffee reminded me of the huge disconnect between urban Southern NH and the mostly rural rest of the state. The only way Manchester is "the heart of central New Hampshire" is if you think Concord is the northern extreme of the state. I know the idea of #NHexit is popular in some circles (NH leaving the USA and becoming it's own nation) but that's not going to happen. But hear me out. Our neighbors in Maine have the same issue. So here's my plan. Coos, Carroll and Grafton counties split off from the rest of the state. Maybe toss in the northern halves of Sullivan and Belknap counties too. That's roughly dividing the state in half by area. Sounds pretty fair to me. Northern NH and northern ME merge together and become the new New Hampshire, and Southern NH and southern ME merge to become the new ME. I'm not married to the names, I am just getting tired of people who chose to live on top of each other trying to change zoning so they can expand into the areas where people just want to be left the fuck alone. Flip em if ya want so @FreeStateNH doesn't have to change their @ name.

Politicians in Virginia are racing to pass an "assault weapons" ban that could take effect July 1st, and we're doing something about it. At Palmetto State Armory, we're not just building firearms, we're maximizing freedom. 🇺🇸

The high end pro stuff works fine. Still not as well as high end pro gas stuff, but decent. Problems that still need to be solved are run time and cost. We're talking in the $1700-$2100 range for a electric blower and batteries with 15-25 minutes of run time at full throttle, when a $500 gas version will work the same all day long.

@TheMa78024 Oh, and thank you. Stuff like that literally used to be part of my job. I would have to put together bid specs for among other things, leaf blowers.

@Mopar Thank you for the lowdown on the electric blowers, I was thinking about getting one so I was reading the reviews on the HD website just yesterday. Your post had more info than the dozens I read. Thanks again 👍

Lemme guess... homeowner or apt dweller? BTW, I am not the least bit anti battery. I own a battery powered blower, and cut the cord on all but my most power hungry power tools ages ago. Most now are brushless running the latest tab-less or pouch battery tech. So I'll try to explain. For starters, if you are comparing "mph" on the blowers at Home Depot, stop right there. MPH is not what matters. Pros are looking at cfms and newtons. The speed is minimally important, what matters is the volume (cfm) and force (newtons) because those are what does the work. Like comparing a garden hose to a firehose. Both might be hooked to the same water supply, but the firehose is putting far more water on the fire. So Lets compare some pro-level blowers. I'll use Echo, since they sell to both consumers and pros. Their top of the line battery powered blower is the DPB-7700 echo-usa.com/blowers/dpb-77… In it's max power/capacity configuration, it uses 3 56v 8ah batteries and weighs over 37lbs. At full power, it has 36n of force and up to 950cfm of volume. But only for short burst with "turbo mode", I can't find the max performance without using turbo. I can tell you that in normal hi mode, it makes 72db of noise, and the batteries will last "up to" 24 minutes. After which it takes 2hrs for rapid recharge. As you probably know, rapid charging decreases battery life, so a normal charge is closer to 4hrs. With 3 batteries and regular chargers, they are $1700 each. Extra/replacement batteries are $450 each. So, 1 blower with 1 extra set of batteries is over $3000. A pair of dual port rapid chargers is another $350. Now let's look at their top gas blower, the PB-9010. echo-usa.com/blowers/pb-901… It weighs about 30lbs with a full tank of gas. At full power, it has 48n of force, and 1110cfm. It generates a max of 83.8db, which is about the level of typical city traffic, but still twice as loud as the electric. It can run 8hrs a day with only a few minutes for the occasional "recharge", and you can fill the tank 450 times for the cost of 3 batteries for the electric. Oh, and the blower itself is $700. So a landscaper can buy 4 blowers and 550gal of fuel and run them all day for what he would spend to run just ONE less capable blower that is also 25% heavier on his back for maybe 1.5-2hrs out of the day. Sorry, that may be acceptable for a wealthy homeowner who likes to putter around his yard, but it's just not there yet for pro use.

@Mopar gas blowers are super annoying and they dont work that much better than modern electric ones. why are people so weird about progress? have fun putting $8 gas in your blower

@TheMa78024 Just compare useful specs like cfm and runtimes at full power, not mph and "up to x minutes"

@TheMa78024 Go ahead and consider one for home use, if you can deal with the limitations. I have both gas and electric. If the electric can handle the job, that is my first choice.

@nhjonesy The very best, most expensive ones can compete with mid-level gas blowers.... for a few minutes. And they cost 3-4 times as much. Like I said, fine for someone who has the money and time to use it as a hobby. The tech isn't there yet for commercial use.

@Mopar Not at all - battery blowers cannot compete with more capable gas units that can actually move leaves and other debris, even on a windy day.

@Manjoguy yeah? And the post is about the CITY of Lexington, MA enacting a ban. Although CT was poised to pass a state-wide ban this yea, they just backed down in the last day or 2 and retreated. For now.

Smaller tools, and tools they only run for short bursts, yes. I recently upgraded to a cordless full size 1/2" 2-1/4hp plunge router, and that thing is a beast. But it gets used for minutes at a time, not hours. I have an electric leaf blower, line trimmer, and 3 different size chainsaws. All 3 are my first choice for normal stuff around the yard. But none of them compare in power or run time with the gas versions I grab for bigger jobs.

There have been a lot of advances in electric power tools, and at this point I’d say an electric leafblower is superior to gas for home use. But how are commercial landscaping companies supposed to make the switch? They can’t charge the batteries in the truck. This is going to hurt small local businesses.

Reading is hard. Try again, but this time read all the words instead of just some of them. Most recent public data from 2/4/2026 shows Conway is (D)2199 - (R)2194. That's almost dead even, not a 2 to 1 majority. Bartlett is (D)840 - (R)706. Still not even close to 2 to 1. Jackson is (D)311 - (R)166. No longer quite 2 to 1, but still pretty close. For contrast, at the time of the 2020 general election, Jackson was (D)394 - (R)189, so technically Jackson has swung ever so slightly to the right since then.

The northeast was already in a serious drought heading into winter. Winter rain and snow doesn't penetrate the frozen ground and soak into the aquifers. Heavy torrential rain doesn't ether. It all just runs off. Same with the snow in the winter when it thaws fast. For as much snow as my area had over the winter, it's already mostly gone. We had less snow last year, but it was slower melting. We still had a foot on the ground mid march. Half of NH gets it's water from private wells. Even in many NH towns with "city water", it comes from wells, not reservoirs. That's ground water. Aquifers. Often hundreds of feet down. 2 inches of rain in 12hrs does nothing for that. Here are the latest maps for NH, and the North East. All the people with dry wells up here for the last 6+ months understand it's science and weather, not politics and fearmongering.

They moved to debate to later time. The minutes of the March 11th meeting show they were debating the legalities of moving the discussion to a non-public meeting, or an otherwise unrelated special meeting. But in the meantime, the town refused to renew the docking permit even at the higher $3000 rate they did approve.

@granitellama It's CT. The state that requires permits to purchase ammo, and wants to require all gun parts to go thru an FFL. Just being a gun owner qualifies as "suspicious behavior".

@Mopar What was this "suspicious behavior". Right now with ammo prices increasing a lot of people are likely freaking out and stockpiling like they did with toilet paper and other gas in past years. Some rando ordering 3 boxes of ammo and then acting weird about it might have happened
