Chatting CGT with @GBNEWS. Its a short clip and obv this is a massive subject with nuances & complications, but in essence whether 4 property professionals, business owners or entrepreneurs, punitive CGT taxation is a dissuasive, negative tax which damages growth in the long run.

@saltytower @GBNEWS @SophieReaper She doesn't make a good argument. Cgt is a bad tax. Long term investment in things which boost productivity will suffer. It takes no account of length of investment and inflation.

I gen believe that punitive CGT discourages the business builders / entrepreneurs / self employed. Agree with you on current state of UK housing in relation to the avo analogy.

@saltytower @GBNEWS @SophieReaper Too simplistic. Punitive taxation on entrepreneurialism & business building simply dissuades it, & encourages tax avoidance. Also CGT is a fixed rate, you don't ever pay a full 40% for eg on your whole income. Also landlords are taxed differently than every other buisness, unfair

@jonnyvjames @GBNEWS @SophieReaper The massive expansion of buy to let, coupled with the wholesale cheap selling off of social homes, coupled with massive immigration has been an absolute disaster for the UK property market. BTW for 20yrs I have supported jobs in our local economy, trades & purchases.

@GBNEWS @SophieReaper We should ban the corporate acquisition of residential housing. If landlords want to invest money or capital, then they can invest in commercial activities that create jobs. Such as new house building for example

@StevenBusby13 @GBNEWS @SophieReaper That, that and once again that. Social housing failures and yet the PRS is attacked, but only smaller landlords, the big boys will be just fine.

@GBNEWS @SophieReaper Who do labour think will pay this extra money, cuz it won't be the landlord, it'll be the people forced to private rent because there's not enough social housing. It'll be families that live in areas where councils allow HMOs increasing rent on family homes

George Osbourne's taxation changes are designed to ensure small landlords in the PRS don't make a profit anymore, they're keeping that privilege for the large build-to-letters and corporations. Capitalism at it's worst.
