Lastly, I know they did whatever they could in an attempt to teach me what I need to know. Unfortunately, it was just a skill mismatch that created a hurdle too great for my stress level to overcome. it was not my intelligence that was my limiter, it was my ability to multitask quickly and make thoughtful decisions on the fly. I am a CPU, not a GPU. One task done very well, not 10 done acceptably.

What this means for commissions: I’ll need to drastically tone down the amount of comms I do, only commissioning essential drawings for projects in the future. The commissions promised will still happen, but “for fun” commissions might be discontinued going forwards until I get another job set up.

Well, got sad news. I’m either quitting my job or getting fired soon. Not due to the market, not due to AI, but due to the raw workload and a job that just doesn’t fit what I want to do. I make a lot, but the time I have to put in it makes the stress not worth it anymore. My boss got onto me for leaving **on time** and saying I treat work like I did college. I’ll admit, I suck at my job and I wouldn’t hold it against them if they fired me. However, working 55-60 hr weeks isn’t going to be my life no matter what he wants.

I'm seriously considering making all my commissions instant orders because I'm tired of receiving a commission request and then having it canceled because "they found another artist." 💀 so why are you making the request in the first place if you're not sure?

I actually get really frustrated with “artists” on vgen who list their art as super cheap to bait you into commissioning and then tack on a million irrelevant fees and make it over 500$.

If they have quality pieces and work with me to make something great, sure. If they just do whatever to finish the commission quick to move on? No. Professionalism is only important to me when I’m doing something public and they’re my main artist. If they’re doing a personal piece, it doesn’t matter to me.

Would you guys still work with an artist if you saw them complaining on main about all the art they have to draw and taking too many clients? Personally it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth if they're willing to voice this in their place of business. I see it a lot..

@devilfeathers Not only that but if you truly like someone’s design, just draw a rough sketch of it. It doesn’t need to be paid if you yourself want to draw it. You show them, and then bam! If they want to comm you they’ll tell you, not the other way around.

Strongly depends on if it’s a hiring commission post or someone just trying to make a sell. If I make a post about my original character and I don’t explicitly say I’m hiring, I don’t want to hear any of it. To me it reeks of desperation when it happens. “I got a cool character!” “Buy stuff from me please! I love your character!” Me: “you’re probably just trying to flatter me just to get money huh…”

@LilSpoot If someone doesn’t respond to me for about a month, I say “it has been a month of no updates or responses. I’ll give you a week to get back to me, if you do not respond I will be terminating the commission.” That typically wakes them up if they’re just putting you off

Hiring a design artist! 1000$ BUDGET! It's time to design a couple of the most important characters in my world. and for that, I am choosing an artist that will inherit multiple commissions. The other commissions I've done so far has helped me find some amazing artists, but the time has come to send out one final post to see who really has it in them! If they do well enough, I will likely be hiring them multiple times for big projects. This is not a commission for a newbie or intermediate artist. The artist hired here will need to be experienced and able to adapt. I will not hire any style copiers or anyone with a mediocre style. This is a professional grade commission. The Commission: Your task will be to create a character design from scratch utilizing pre-existing characters of mine, a world description, and a couple of things to get you started, such as some lore or design attributes I'm aiming for. You will be responsible for communicating with me regarding design choices, explaining such design choices in lore and in character, and constructing enough reference images so that another artist could re-create the design if they got hold of the reference sheet material. Extent: A full reference sheet. This will include a 3 view of the character, as well as a breakdown of the clothing layers and prop design.
