Working on a minimally (hopefully) technical essay on quantum mechanics - specifically on the Zurek program: decoherence + einselection + quantum Darwinism. Essay thesis? The Zurek program (which builds on the general Copenhagen concepts) is actually our best understanding of quantum mechanics. Some general background on this stuff: quantamagazine.org/quantum-darwin…

Battle Bun ready #GOMAX

being a cyclist kinda sucks politically because your options are always Candidate A: loves bike infrastructure, but refuses to jail bike thieves Candidate B: wants to send bike thieves to the gulag, but hates cyclists anyway my bike was stolen last week, RIP

No, really, cruising around doing nothing is de-facto illegal in a lot of jurisdictions now and will get you pulled over by the police and questioned for "why are you here, where did you come from, where are you going" and the situation only escalates if you honestly answer.

“Past a certain age, a man who still has empathy for the homeless can be a bad thing.”

@MorlockP Wow yeah you're right, the Chinese trinkets and goyslop have gotten cheaper, we truly live in the best of all possible economies, can't imagine what the kids are complaining about.

@MorlockP If by everything you mean 'televisions', then sure.

You can replace "get a license" with almost anything else and this holds. The cost of everything has been driven up, while the joy in anything has been leached out. Youth live in an overregulated, shrinkflated, abhuman, lifeless panopticon where the juice is watered down poison that is never worth the squeeze.

@MorlockP Manufacturing is still huge in Alabama.

Over the past 34 years, healthcare has replaced manufacturing as the top employer in the vast majority of states.

@PstafarianPrice It was... really bad. One report says one of her arms was completely severed. She was still alive when her grandson found her and when medical transport arrived, but succumbed at the hospital

I have $30. So does my neighbor. I spend my $30 on a live chicken. The chicken lays eggs. I eat some eggs and sell the rest. After a few days, I have made enough money to buy another chicken. That new chicken also produces eggs, so then I make money to buy more chickens. Soon, I have a substantial chicken farm, and I'm making a living selling eggs. I have achieved success. My neighbor, on the other hand, spends his $30 on a pizza. He eats the pizza and now no longer has $30. He does not profit from his initial $30, so he has no success. He loses. Did I contribute to my neighbor's loss?
