In #Strongmen, I explain how genocides and other catastrophic events instigated by megalomaniac leaders could not happen without the complicit cowards and fanatical extremists that populate authoritarian governments. Those qualities can take over militaries as well.

As Trump warns that a “whole civilization will die tonight,” it is worth reminding him that threats made with the aim of terrorizing a civilian population are themselves war crimes. trib.al/4vRQNUw

The smoking gun has been found. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had a direct hand in approving anomalous flood control projects from start to finish. “As I have tried to warn people many times before, the Trump family motto is basically, ‘Fuck you, stop me’. It is of course not limited to Trump, the self-dealing extends to his Cabinet as well. When you consider all of the economic arbitrage from this illegal war in Iran and Trump’s disastrous tariff policies, don’t sleep on the fact that Howard Lutnick’s sons, who took over for him to run Cantor Fitzgerald when he joined the administration as Commerce Secretary, began buying up tariff-related debt for pennies on the dollar a year ago, when their father helped put these trade policies in place. How much money will they make by gobbling up distressed assets now that Trump is tanking the global economy due to rising oil prices? Especially in Southeast Asian markets; the hotels, tech companies and manufacturing businesses that are now suffering due to soaring energy costs may find themselves in the portfolios of these unscrupulous scions. This is akin to a global shakedown at the hands of a single mafia family (Russian ties notwithstanding, Putin is benefiting immensely, as he always seem to do under Trump’s policies) destroying the world’s economy to benefit their own profit margins. The human suffering caused by it all doesn’t even register to them. Howard Lutnick already proved himself quite immune from empathy in his many years of looking the other way for his next door neighbor, Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation; continuing to do business with him and travel to his private island. Not to mention Lutnick’s total lack of empathy and compassion in the days after 9/11, when he stopped the paychecks for his 658 employees who had perished in the horrific terrorist attacks. The twenty five years since have only calloused a cold heart further. If you want Trump to stop sending troops to Iran you have to make him a better offer. He is transactional and the only thing he is concerned with is his own self-interest. Our enemies understand this and our allies do now as well. The more money that this war makes for those on the inside of this administration, and his inner circle at Mar-a-Lago, the longer it will last and the greater the toll will be for Iran and American forces. They do not care about the consequences of their actions - and so far there hasn’t been any of real significance. We must change that and demand accountability.” open.substack.com/pub/noelcasler…

Wala pa yang 1 year sa pwesto pero ang mga nagawa ramdam ng taumbayan. Paano pa kung sya na ang may hawak ng ating bansa. Ang unang mararamdaman natin, kasama tayo sa pagplaplano because a ROBREDO name is always synonymous to PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT. #leni2028 #lenrisa

Without doubt the best thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise since the original trilogy is Rogue One. Nothing comes close.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗪𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗘? We’re still reeling from the impacts of the oil crisis, and now new forecasts point to a potentially powerful El Niño that could disrupt weather patterns worldwide—including in the Philippines. We are already under an El Niño Watch, and according to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, nearly all models now point to at least a moderate El Niño by June. During the last four months of the year, some projections already suggest sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific could exceed +2.5°C, which is a threshold associated with the unofficial term “super El Niño,” last seen during the 2015–2016 event. While El Niño is often associated with heat and drought, PAGASA warns 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗻 (𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁), increasing the risk of heavy rains, floods, and landslides, especially in western Luzon and Metro Manila. As the year progresses, conditions may 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻. Scientists warn of record-breaking temperatures, droughts, and pressure on water and power supplies. It’s still too early to confirm whether this will reach “super” El Niño levels, but the likelihood of a significant El Niño event is now increasingly high.
