Newcastle fans following me, I’m curious… Are you Eddie Howe in or Eddie Howe out? I’ve seen a fair bit of chatter saying that fans are turning on him, is that the case? If so, I’d be genuinely interested to know why. It’s always better to ask those who watch every week.

UPDATE: ·EDF and OVO have now commited to passing on 'the full savings in full' but not how or when they'll do it (which is needed, for transparency). We're contacting all other firms to find out their stances. I'm pleased the pressure we've been putting on is paying dividends.

News: Eon has joined Octopus and British Gas in saying it will pass on the full 1 April 2026 cut in energy bills to all customers, including those on fixes. 1. This is the £150/yr off average bills from the Budget, coming from shifting some policy costs off energy bills and onto general taxation, and cutting the ECO scheme. 2. The cut to the price cap will be via a 3.5p/kWh (c.13%) reduction in electricity prices and a 0.35p/kWh (c.6%) reduction in gas prices, if everything else remains equal. 3. Everything else is unlikely to remain equal, as the April price cap was expected to rise, so the actual pound-in-your-pocket cuts will be a little less than this, currently around a 6% reduction in April's Price Cap over January's is predicted. 4. Eon and Octopus have indicated this will be done by simply cutting all customers’ rates, including those on fixes, by this amount on 1 April. Updated: British Gas has now said it will also do it this way. 5. The government has told me it is pushing all firms to follow suit, as it should. The key for me, though, is how it will be implemented and making sure it is transparent. I believe a straight cut on all bills on 1 April is the cleanest and best way to do it.

Fresh from a qualifying campaign with 8 wins from 8, 22 goals scored, 0 conceded, Harry Kane passing Pele for international goals and a place at the World Cup booked before any other European nation, this is where the discourse goes?! The media in this country will never change.

🚨 Ex players blaming media for fallout from Jude Bellingham’s petulance is like blaming the mirror for the haircut 🪞 The truth is Bellingham needs to look at himself ⬇️ This is why I think England have a better chance WITHOUT him at the World Cup… dailymail.co.uk/sport/football…

To the person who just called me a "sell out scum" because I did this meeting... people like you make me despair. Feeding in to the political debate in areas you have expertise doesn't make you scum, it's crucial, it's needed, we can't complain that they're out of touch unless we engage. Ive been in to see a good few Chancellor's regardless of party, it doesn't imply support, it's about trying to feed in important points.
Martin Lewis@MartinSLewis

I'm just on my way in to see @RachelReevesMP, I doubt I'll get any budget tip-offs, but there's lots on my list to talk with her about… including Cash ISAs, LISAs, fiscal drag, car finance, investment encouragement, energy bills, inflationary mid-contract price hikes, council tax, carer's allowance, student living loans & more. I find it easier to write this before I go in, as it’s a closed meeting, which enables politicians to be more frank and have a better discussion, but want to let you know the type of things I hope to raise.

Pity. Tonali deserved a goal. Denied by a good Scherpen save. Earlier, Woltemade flicked in Tonali’s shot. Toonali again outstanding for Newcastle, shielding defence, covering, ball-winning and starting moves, just relentless, incredible stamina. #NUFC #USGNEW

Newcastle United's new CEO David Hopkinson is clearly a very successful, capable, experienced, intelligent businessman who will understand that Newcastle are more than a business. They're about sport and community, pride in the shirt and in the city. Hopkinson’s career (Maple Leafs, Knicks, Real Madrid etc) suggests a heavyweight operator who gets on with people (not that it has any relevance but his degree at McGill Uni was in humanities and he’s done interviews with his old faculty on the varied qualities of being a “world-class business leader”, McGill’s description, including understanding people, always useful). He has extensive experience in Canada, US and at Real of working on venue management, naming rights, maximising sponsorship revenue, all things Newcastle need atm. The 54-year-old Canadian was also very strong in an interview with Forbes magazine in 2019 on the importance of “making memories” for fans. That should be the starting point for every executive. He can’t start charging prices used to in the US (Knicks etc). Hopkinson's immediate aims should be lifting the mood post-Isak, appointing a sporting director (presumably Ross Wilson), supporting an elite-class head coach in Eddie Howe and being a public leader of the club (easing some of that workload on Howe, allowing him to focus on the football). Then generating more revenue (without fleecing the fans) so Newcastle can compete with bigger clubs, looking at the training ground and stadium and getting on with taking decisions without constant recourse to PIF. And good luck, best wishes and all strength to the outgoing CEO, Darren Eales, following his diagnosis with blood cancer. #NUFC
