At the 41st International Association of Science Parks (IASP) World Conference on Science Parks & Areas of Innovation, @IASPnetwork Deputy Data Commissioner, Rose Mosero, HSC, highlighted the crucial role of incorporating data protection principles into innovation. @MoseroRose emphasized that regulatory compliance is not merely about exploring the possibilities of what innovation can achieve, but about aligning those possibilities with ethical and regulatory considerations of what we should do. By embedding data protection principles, innovators can ensure that their advancements benefit society without causing harm. "Progress in innovation should not only be measured by output, but by the values it upholds," she stated. "Innovations often involve the collection, processing, and storage of significant amounts of personal data, which brings privacy concerns. Adhering to data protection principles and implementing data protection by design is critical in ensuring transparency, accountability, and security." @MoseroRose further stressed that innovators bear the responsibility to avoid creating systems in opaque, "black box" environments. This inaugural meeting is significant as it represents an opportunity for collaboration between the @ODPC_KE & @MoICTKenya The discussions focused on enhancing data privacy measures and ensuring that digital initiatives align with national policies regarding technology and data protection.

Earlier, the Deputy Data Commissioner Rose Mosero HSC, FIP @MoseroRose issued a presentation where she encouraged legal practitioners to uphold their role in leading their clients in embedding data protection in their governance structures. "We must be protectors of our client's interests and leaders in upholding Data Protection best practices., let us strive to fully understand the obligations of the organisations that we serve and what it is required as per the Data Protection Act"she said.

Earlier today the ODPC led by the Deputy Data commissioner Rose Mosero HSC FIP. @MoseroRose received a courtesy call from Edo State Government (EDSG)of Nigeria. During the meeting, they discussed the challenges and considerations that data protection authorities must take into account in their regulatory space, including balancing the rights of individuals and fostering the growth of businesses and innovation. Furthermore, they also discussed ways of overcoming barriers to cross-border data flows, developing and understanding key policy frameworks, and empowering the delegation to contribute to Africa's digital future in cross-border data flow.

ICT and the Digital Economy PS Eng. John Tanui yesterday in his office received and held discussions with his Gambian counterpart, Mr. Yankuba Saidy, ahead of the 3-day Network of African Data Protection Authorities Conference 2024 (NADPA-RADP) organized by ODPC starting today.

Estonian delegation led by the Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Daniel Schaer, engaged the NCAJ Working Committee on ICT. The forum explored partnership and collaboration in digitizing the Kenya’s Justice System.

The 2nd East Africa Exchange on Data Protection agreed on the vision as “To Foster Seamless and Secure Data governance in East Africa.” The conference agreed on following as key steps to collaborate together as one Regional bloc (EAC): 1. Establish Technical Working Group 2. ⁠Capacity Building 3. ⁠Awareness creation 4. ⁠Establish Regional Legal Framework for creation of common standards 5. ⁠deepening collaboration The discussions focused on the benefits of collaboration among EAC Partner States, discussing strategies for cross-border data flows and regional convergence. This conference highlighted the challenges related to cross-border data flows, share best practices and proposals to improve cross-border data flows, facilitate cooperation among stakeholders and explore pathways to regional harmonization.
