@RoizMichael83 Black has to find a way of bringing his rook to the back rank. Ra4-g4-g8 spends 3 tempi and loses, while the immediate Rb5+ loses to Kc3 Rb8 Kc4 (shouldering!), so I assume it is Kd4 Kb3 Rb5+ Ka4 Rb8 Ka5 Kc5 where white can't make progress.

One of most dramatic games! In GM Zhou, Jianchao (2605) - IM Mardov, Dimitar (2498), Chicago 2026 Black was very close for achieving a draw...What's wrong with 1...Ra4 and what should be played instead? 🤠

@RoizMichael83 This has got to be the most frustrating thing about chess, when you try so hard and hard, you come so close, and somehow it is still not enough...

Chess is sometimes really cruel, especially when you see 16 y.o player works so hard to outplay her much higher rated opponent, and spoils all her efforts with 1 careless move. This is Assylkhan, A (1999) - Balabayeva, X (2355). The pawn is hanging, so 41.Rd1...😢
