Very excited that I've officially started as a bioinformatics scientist at Foresight Diagnostics! This website has become an absolute mess, but for folks interested in transitioning to industry from academia my dms are always open. Happy to share an n=1 experience.
excited to share @ramencult's new paper on interpreting machine learning predictions of geographic origin from a host (Anopheles) / parasite (Plasmodium) system biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
What drives this heterogeneity is fascinating. But testing if DNAm assoc. can actually drive gene regulation is huge! So many thanks to coauthors (@jtung5@susan_alberts@archie@AmandaLea14@mercie_aki and the twitter-less folks). Please read and let us know your thoughts!
There is so much more to say but a few final thoughts -- Biological embedding via DNAm is an enticing idea. But, the empirical support has been very lacking. We find mixed evidence here. Some strong source of adversity have no independent link to DNAm! Others do.
At long last my final dissertation chapter gets to see the light of day: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… . We start with a simple observation -- bad experiences during early life predict increased mortality in adulthood (in many species). But why? 1/n
