While playing in the garden, my 2-yr old daughter came across a rolly-polly and, intrigued, decided to taste it. When her mother asked in shock, 'Did you just eat that?!' She calmly replied, 'Yeeees, it's... SPICY! So now you know...

Just realized that an article was published last week on the new species of moth my students worked on naming! #lqb80fwgyugmuz5hsqc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">kansas.com/news/state/art…

Crazy how much time has passed. I was teaching an amazing class of 8th graders in Topeka. I had student taught them as 5th graders. Left for spring break and never saw them again, although we did name a new species of moth with a virtual group thanks to @MothMatson

@EerikaSchulz I have a paper in review that describes this genus as it is presently a manuscript name that was never formally published. And I'll also be raising the Andean subspecies 'mirafloresa' (that you have pictured here) to full species status!

@SciencePicard I do regularly. The TSA agent will just ask you what kind of cake or sweets you have if you carry them in a white Schmitt box. Then you get to tell them about your insects!

Right or wrong, when elevating an infraspecific taxon to species, what is your preferred language. Example: "Taxon A represents a [???] species."

New idea for my hominin map- categorize Neanderthal sites by 150ka+, 149,999 - 70,000ka, 69,999-40ka. Visually would be seen as dark blue, blue, and light blue dots. Potential problem is sites that were used for all three categories. Thoughts?

@punkflies You might think, but I have three reared tachinid adults, all identical as far as I can tell, and all reared from black eggs. I have dozens of photos of Stamnodes larvae with these black eggs attached on the thorax. It's unusual...

@MothMatson It looks like a Patelloa species but that genus has mycrotype eggs, those eggs are tiny and laid on the host-plant. Perhaps the egg in the first picture corresponds to a different tachinid species.

@ymilesz Well let me know if you proceed! I'm interested in doing something similar and precedence would be fantastic.
