Hey beautiful people, Apex update. I've spent the last few days measuring, comparing, and contemplating. The short version: the production surface came out different from my initial development sample, and I caught it early. What happened: - Etched glass is controlled in production by Ra, the industry-standard roughness number. Ra (and many other parameters) on this batch is nearly identical to my original sample. That's exactly why nothing looked wrong. - The production surface carries more material above the plateaus and a slightly coarser texture. - In hand: same class of speed, more tactile texture, and glide that responds to pressure instead of ignoring it. Press harder = get more tactile feedback. - That last part is the opposite of what I originally advertised, so the claim changes. The data doesn't lie. What I did about it: - Found the root cause with the factory: the traditional QC checks physically couldn't see the difference. - Added more QC checks for this run. Uniformity across each individual pad. Every unit in this drop gets screened. - Rewrote the spec sheet to describe the surface you'll actually receive, and I'll be publishing the full profilometry data with it. Every parameter. Nobody really publishes that, but in this case, I will. What's still the same: Apex is a sculpted plateau glass, very fast (early reviewer feedback puts its peak glide at the top of the category with other top-speed pads), with real pressure response. Grip pressure becomes a tactility & precision input, in a way that feels very intuitive and consistent. Apex was built to prove a glass surface can be sculpted. This batch proved something I didn't plan for, but it turned out great in its own way. I've cancelled production runs before, but this surface feels too great to cancel. It's time to talk about something. My artwork workflow. This is going to be a long one. As some of you may know, I work with our in-house artist, and have for over 3-4 years. He has done all of the Kurosun , GLSSWRKS and tekkusai designs - even the logos. Yes, seriously, it's all the same guy. Of course, Kurosun art has existed before the age of good generative AI , back in 2022. So it was always from idea straight to human drawing. With GLSSWRKS, the workflow was always to use AI as reference, and then let the artist work for weeks or months until it feels just right. After our first release, which was really similar to the original AI reference, we decided to never keep them that close again. Our artist has taken more liberty to make their own version of each idea, making over 60 versions of each character, by hand. My own tekkusai releases are much the same, the ideas start from a reference, and the artist then gets to work and stays in the loop with me, we work back and forth for a long time until it feels right. So, some people have asked, what's the reason for working this way? Well, I think that artists are important. I highly value working with both my artists (one for artwork, and one for 3D visuals). Their taste matters to me. Our back and forth matters to me. Our friendship matters to me. The fact that they get paid matters to me, and that is something that will never change. Every pixel from the artwork is drawn by a human, with only references being generative AI. This is the reason I have always said "AI hybrid, but there is a real artist that works hard and gets paid", because to me, that's the part that matters. Apex took two months of work just on the art/3D visual side. It took even longer to develop this surface and coating. If you're wondering why now, I think it's the right time to talk about it. Before anything else is sold. Before any rumors circulate. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and where they draw the line. This is where I draw mine. Much love to everyone, tekk

I just got the Hachiware pads in. For anyone deciding before Arbiter Studio closes pre-orders, here are quick snaps and early impressions. I’ve had limited time with them, so I’ll have a full review in the coming weeks. Ice is the fastest of the three, as advertised. It is not as fast as the Mitsuki Kokū, Dysphoria Sayo, or Kyomi Ryo, but it leads the Hachiware lineup. Ice is 1.5mm, while Hanabi and Dream are 2mm. It has medium texture, high surface grain, lower smoothness, and slightly less rounded corners, which will be Hachiware’s standard moving forward. Hanabi is the second fastest and my favorite to use. Low texture, medium grain, smoother overall feel. Speed sits close to the Dysphoria Maki. Dream is the slowest, but also the smoothest. No texture, no grain, and the cleanest glide feel. Mine had oil residue out of the box, so clean it before use. The speeds are closer than expected. What separates them is smoothness, texture, and grain. Artwork-wise, it is a tie between Hanabi and Ice for me. My recommendation is simple: choose the artwork you like most. Thank you @hachiware_gg for sending these out! Can't wait to try the new Zero.
