Through an extensive visual apparatus, an exhibition history, and a rigorous textual analysis of their work, “Mousse 83–The Artist’s Artist” returns to the foundation of contemporary culture’s production and reception, lauding and reasserting the salience of committed writing.

For “Mousse 83–The Artist’s Artist,” we asked some of our most notable contributors to pen assessments on a cohort of artists whose work is defined by such complexity that other artists recognize its legacy and exceptional value.

With more than 300 pages and a specially designed format, “Mousse 83–The Artist’s Artist” is more a book than a magazine. This collectible issue is a small anthology dedicated to influential, yet under-represented, artists who spearheaded the languages that are defining our age.
