In The Grey: with the level of corruption that exists in the world today, this film makes no sense. I assume that Guy Ritchie is trying to make a believable film but considering what happens it might was well take place on another planet. It also takes far too long to explain.

Vanishing Point: a decent but sad thriller with three seemingly unrelated stories that are connected. It’s far too long and doesn’t get interesting until the second half when all the stories come together. The performances are good. And police procedures seem different in China.

Mortal Kombat II: I found the first film enjoyable so thought I would give this sequel a go. I know it’s just all about fighting but they could at least scrape together a decent plot. Instead we get this long, cliche filled snooze fest. It takes itself far too seriously to be fun

Cold War 1994: a decent police thriller but is overly complicated. The film starts by introducing a lot of characters who feel mostly unnecessary. It also gets very melodramatic and like a soap opera more so than thriller. The action scenes are well done with one being very tense

The Sheep Detectives: many family films could learn lessons from this film. It’s so much more than a movie with talking sheep. It deals with so many themes and issues in a smart way which doesn’t talk down to its audience. It’s also a really fun murder mystery.

Wolfram: Warwick Thornton is by far & away one of the best directors working in Australia today. He tells such powerful stories of First Nations people. A film so visually stunning. Not just in the way it looks but the way the visuals tell the story, that you don’t need dialogue.

Hokum: a weird film but not in a good way for a horror film. Most of it makes no sense, especially something Adam Scott’s character does which seems out of character. All the scares are very obvious which is not good for a horror film.

Calle Málaga: a familiar story of an older person being forced out of their home, but has a wonderful central character that you can’t help but be delighted. It’s sweet & very charming with a lovely love story as well. Carmen Maura gives a brilliant, understated performance.

Seven Snipers: a normally excellent in a very bland film. The premise is decent but is executed in a boring and cliched manner. These are supposed to be well trained soldiers but they do some really dumb things. As usual I rewrote the film to be better as I was watching it.

The Devil Wears Prada 2: I’m not interested in fashion, as evidenced by the outfits I wear. This film & its predecessor are enjoyable but I like to think of it being about the film industry instead. The best thing in this film is Anne Hathaway’s performance. Best she’s ever done.

Exit 8: I was not aware that this film is based on a video game but it would be interesting to see how you play it. This film keeps you on edge the whole time and thoroughly confused, just like the characters in the film. It also has a surprisingly heartwarming message.

Michael: while I like a few of his songs, I’m not a big M.J. fan and so not the audience for this film. It’s a very typical biopic full of corny moments and cliche. The only thing it does well is that it manages to capture the greatness of M.J. which is very rare in most biopics.

Hoppers: an adorable and fun film with a great message about the environment. Pixar once again prove how good they are at creating characters who you care about. It’s not as deep and profound as some previous films but still a great deal of fun.

The Stranger: I’m a fan of director François Ozon & this film didn’t disappoint. A simple plot is used to explore complex themes & issues with gorgeous black & white cinematography. Benjamin Voisin gives an amazingly understated performance of a man brought down for no emotion.

Fuze: a very low key heist thriller that feels more suitable to streaming rather than cinema. There are some good twists but it moves at a very casual pace. There are some plot points too which seem to happen far too quickly to be believable. All the cast are just 2D people.

@darkhorizons My dad took my brother and I to see ‘Lethal Weapon’ when I was 10 and my brother was 8. It was M rated but I remember him saying afterwards that he thought it should have been R rated. The MA15+ was not around yet.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy: based n early reports I had really low expectations for this film and they were met. A long, dull boring attempt to do ‘The Exorcist’. A predictable plot and cliched characters. I don’t mind gross stuff but this had far too much of it that it became silly.
