We are heartbroken by this and stand in solidarity with our colleagues @LAistUnion. This follows layoffs at public media shops across the U.S. and comes less than a year after LAist eliminated 21 roles in a "restructuring." Please support their work however you can.

We’re heartbroken and outraged on behalf of our colleagues at LAist. This is a loss for their newsroom and across our entire organization.
We Make LAist (formerly KPCC)@LAistUnion

Today @LAist announced the plan to eliminate 21 roles, including at least 7 unit members, amid a company-wide “restructuring,” that will reduce the newsroom by 10%.

American Public Media pays its executives more than almost every nonprofit media organization. The same is not true for its journalists. Now, management is trying to deny overtime to some of the hardest working reporters in the business. Please support @mplaceunion.

Yesterday @marketplace management told us (via Jones Day) they have “no appetite” to provide comp time when our members work a holiday, or put in a 10 hour day. So APMG wants low salary minimums, no comp time, and no overtime for most of us. 🤔 More soon. #WeMakeMarketplace
