Using @CuisenaireCo to show fractions of a whole. Pupils were able to recognise the role of the N/D and challenge themselves beyond 1. They were then able to demonstrate their understanding of improper/mix numbers. Some began to explore simplification. #RenCpa #application

I finally got around to playing this factors game with p6 @galbar2018 . Started by using the @CuisenaireCo to show factors of x. I will definitely use this again! Pupils loved it.

If you're ever stuck for a quadratic sequence, any diagonal on a multiplication square will give you one. mathsbot.com/tools/timesTab…

@matildewarden In hindsight for me, the clue’s in the yellow diagonal. For years I’d talk about the square numbers in the times tables in their planners and never realise the whole thing is full of quadratic sequences.

Working with one of my favourite resources today, playing train tactics (to 5.5/55 & 550). It's amazing how quickly pupils build confidence in number when playing 'games'. #mentalstrategy #mathgames #RenCPA @ThornPriSch

@howie_hua If I imagine each of the most outer ones rotating to fill a “missing corner” you can then create a 5 x 5 which is an easy/known fact = 25!

How many small squares? How did you count?

Other interesting comments made include : the rocket 'is powered by explosive sugar so be careful' & the car (what I thought was the exhaust) is 'showing the cars thrust'. Lastly, lots of math language was used freely (names/ how many sides X shape had/vertices).

Then we tried to create 'a pattern' with no teacher direction. I am still taken aback by the fact only 1 pupil created a linear pattern. I would have predicted this would have been the 'norm'. Some very created designs ⬇️ #shape #maths #patterns #design #beautyinmath

We continued our exploration with #patternblocks and infant pupils created ⬇️. Rules were (sides must be touching & max 20 pieces). I was encouraged to witness pupils using all shape names effortlessly and recognising what shapes can make up others to solve 20 max problem.
