@ChiveTalking @RogersHistory At 18, they have attained majority, wherever they are in the UK, except for foreign embassies if they are a national of that embassy (when that country's laws apply). Not sure what legal "exemptions" are afforded to children in schools, tbh...

@RogersHistory A young person on the street is different to a young person in school regarding the Law. An 18 yo is still regarded as a 'child' on school premises and therefore exempt, unless extreme circumstances. It all depends on the moral strength (or weakness) of the HT and their support.

Why in a hospital or a shop or a football ground or a street if a young person assaulted someone, an adult or another young person, it would be a police matter. But in some schools it’s literally a free hit? A cosy chat? Worse still, no option for any sort of appropriate sanction? No teacher should have to face every day feeling unsafe in corridors and classrooms.

Less than 24 hours' notice, and right before a strike caused by this government's failure to support schools & teachers in a way that would deal with the present retention crisis? Wonder what they think the outcome will be...

Ended up working in a sports venue less than 1/2-mile from where I did my teacher training last night. Was great to see so many young people either volunteering or just passionately engaged with the sport. Pretty sure 1 or 2 may have recognised me from when I used to teach them!

No-one makes the decision to go on strike lightly. Teachers are striking today because they, and our schools, are under-funded and under-valued. Failing to invest in education is future-discounting. It’s letting our children down. #TeacherStrike

@La_Biologuita It's something I discovered in training, as lots of colleagues used it. Once I had the rationale explained to me, I found it very useful. Never had pupils label it in books, and only sometimes labelled the slides explicitly, was more verbal when it came to that.
