🇾🇪 Wishing a very happy birthday to our very own Lee Sharpe, who turns 55 today 🍷
There's a version of Lee Sharpe's story that gets told in shorthand, the corner flag, the hat-trick, the backheel. And those moments deserve every word written about them. But the real story of Sharpe is something richer, and sadder, and more human than the highlights ever capture.
He arrived at Old Trafford in June 1988, signed from Torquay United for £200,000, a record fee at the time for a YTS player. He was 17. The move came as a shock to him. United were playing on a Friday night.
He went home, and was woken around 1am by his manager Cyril Knowles, who told him Alex Ferguson and Archie Knox had driven round and wanted his signature in the morning. By the end of that same season, he had made 22 league appearances. Not many teenagers walk into a club like Manchester United and simply belong, but Sharpe did.

My high school math teacher Mr D was known for one thing.
He reused the same exam questions every year. Just changed the numbers. Everyone knew it. He also made a very big deal of collecting every paper back after we reviewed our scores so nobody could pass them to the next year's class.
Of course some of my classmates got their hands on a full set of tests from the previous year.
Within a week everyone had a copy.
Before every exam we'd sit together and work through every problem on the old test until we could solve them in our sleep. When the real exam landed the numbers were different but the logic was identical.
We thought we were geniuses.
Years later I became a teacher myself. Ran into Mr D at a funeral.
Me: I have to confess something.
Me: We had a copy of your old tests the whole time.
Me: Full set. Every exam.
Him: (smirked)
Him: Who do you think leaked them?
Me: (stared at him)
Him: Kids won't study if a teacher tells them to.
Him: But if they think they're getting away with something?
Him: (shrugged)
Him: They study all night.
Me: (stood there)
Me: (replayed four years of feeling clever)
Me: (we were never clever)
Me: (he played us perfectly)
Me: (I became a teacher and I still got played)
Me: (Mr D was built different)

#Hex nothing worse than owning a share with a ticker similar to a crypto coin! A massive fan base despite being 99% down….totally clogs up the feed with constant hyper tripe! 😒🔫
English

@RiseAboveWithK It’s nowhere near as crazy as it sounds! With only £10 you could easily win 5 x £10 and that’s £50 and lose £40 and repeat. Suddenly you started with £10, still have £10 and have gambled £100, but only really gambled only £10!

An old man is selling watermelons by the side of the road.
His sign reads:
1 for $3
3 for $10
A young man stops and buys one watermelon.
“That’ll be $3,” says the old man.
The young man then buys a second watermelon. And then a third.
After paying another $3 each time, the young man picks up his watermelons and starts to walk away.
Then he turns back, grinning proudly.
“Hey old man,” he says, “you realize I just bought three watermelons for $9 instead of $10? Maybe business isn’t your thing.”
The old man smiles and shakes his head.
“Funny… every time somebody comes by, they buy three watermelons instead of one… and then try to teach me business.”

🚨🗣️ Pierluigi Collina (former Italian referee) on Manchester United’s historic comeback against Bayern Munich in the 1999 UCL final:
“It was the last two minutes, I saw the Bayern players on the bench preparing to celebrate the title. Suddenly, Manchester United scored two goals in two minutes and reversed the score.
At that moment, I saw the true face of football — death and life in one stadium. People celebrating madly and people desperate to death.
That night also taught me something about Manchester United: never celebrate too early against them. Until the final whistle, they always believe. Since then, for me, United became the perfect example of mentality, mentality that made them the biggest club in the world.”

#HEX needs: successful rapid execution after this RNS.
If:
Inez is online soon & production ⬆️,& comms stay clearer, this RNS could become more important than the market initially realises.
But if timelines slip, as usual, the market may simply become more cynical.
English

#Hex overall interpretation of RNS!
Operationally positive? Yes
Commercially meaningful?Moderately
Major rerating catalyst alone?
Probably not
Improves scaling credibility? Yes
Confirms hydrogen economics? No
Helps rebuild trust if executed quickly? Definitely

When Dylan Tombides found a lump at 17, he was told it was just a cyst.
All he cared about was breaking into the West Ham team and passing his driving test.
Then, during a random drugs test at the Under-17 World Cup, doctors discovered the truth. Dylan had cancer.
Within days, he had surgery. By the weekend, he was starting chemotherapy.
But he never stopped acting like a footballer.
He kept training. Kept smiling. Kept fighting.
In 2012, Sam Allardyce gave him his West Ham debut at just 18 years old.
Then in 2014, after everything his body had already been through, Dylan still flew out to play for Australia at the AFC Under-22 Championship.
He played four games in eight days.
When he returned to England, he was told the treatment was no longer working.
Dylan passed away later that year aged just 20.
West Ham retired his number 38 shirt.
Before Dylan, the only player to receive that honour was Bobby Moore.
