Day 1. Standard 8x8 chess board. Shared image only, used notice and wonder, then had students work at VNPS on How many squares? Plenty of ‘Aha!’ moments as one group blurted, ‘not 64, there are 65!’ Then I said, maybe there are more?!? 🤷‍♂️ Then the explorations really began.
