The last few weeks have completely broken me mentally and emotionally. Constant migraines, preparing to lay my sister to rest in just a couple of days, family infighting over belongings, attempted break-ins at our flat, and constantly trying to help people only to have it thrown back in my face has finally taken its toll. Losing my sister has changed something deeply in me, and not for the better. My wife and daughter both agree that once the funeral is over, we need a complete reset as a family. We no longer feel comfortable, safe, or at peace in this area, and we’ll be making plans to move well away from here and start over somewhere new. Right now my focus is on my family, my mental health, and trying to find some peace again after everything that’s happened. Company Direction and Key Growth Priorities Hey Upshotters, I want to share a note on the direction of @upshot_cards the company, the problems we wanna solve, and how we plan to address them. I wrote an internal memo to the entire team yesterday detailing how we will be handling the next 5 days, the next 5 weeks and 5 months. The first priority and major improvement is to introduce a pack re-roll mechanic labelled internally as Cheat Mode. Cheat Mode allows a user to pay a small amount, likely $0.65, to look inside a pack and see its contents before deciding whether to buy it. If the user likes what they see, they can choose to purchase the pack. If they do not like it, they can walk away, and Upshot keeps the $0.65 fee. This is important as "Re-Rolling" is a much requested feature, and we understand that users are often aiming for specific cards in each drop, whether those are high-value cards, specific gold cards, or cards that help complete their dream lineup. Cheat Mode aims to give users another option to chase their desired outcomes. The important part is what we do with the Additional Fees Collected. In Upshot Philosophy, Since Launch we've been a platform that gives back to our users more than we have taken. This is true to date, and we'll do our upmost best to make it true into the future. Cheat Mode fees will be put back into future pack drops for our own users. The revenue will be used to create bigger prize pools, bigger instant wins, and better outcomes in future drops. Upshot is a prize-pool-driven business. We want to keep giving users better rewards, bigger cards, more instant wins, and stronger results. The challenge is that this money has to come from somewhere. Right now, it comes from giving back our platform fees, securing grants, and bringing in sponsor or partner money. Cheat Mode gives us a more sustainable path to increase the value we can return to users. The next area we need to explore is pack composition and bundling. The Upcoming Canadian Grand Prix pack is one to watch, the goal here is to ship a bundle containing a promotional pack that contains only Bonus Cards with Cash Prizes, Instant Wins and to Introduce a New Instant Card that is relevant for the End of Season Leaderboard. This Bundled Promo pack would have no contest cards. Instead, it would include cash prizes, instant wins, and potentially instant XP. To support this, we are going to look deeper into understanding our new-user funnel more clearly. We've been working on improving our first time user experience, and now we need to scrutinise data even further. Upshot has no shortage of users wanting to use the platform for free play, however we need to look to increasing the number of newly funded accounts experiencing full packs. Right now, our existing users are buying more, but much of that activity is still coming from a subset of loyal accounts. That is not sustainable long term. We will be looking to grow the number of new users who are actually participating in drops. Finally, we need to solidify a referral campaign. This campaign should be designed to incentivize new account signups and, more importantly, new funded account signups. That ties directly into the KPI we need to improve: growing the number of new users who participate in contests/ pack drops. As Many would also note, there are ongoing changes to our Monthly Leaderboard System. We're gonna be allocating more funds into bonus cash cards and other parts of the platform. We're doing our best to balance out what large accounts and smaller accounts want as they're both optimising for very different outcomes. Upshot will remain low barrier to entry, as the era of prediction play is upon us. We're still here to Reinvest endlessly into rewards for our users.
