Once we successfully eradicate the term ‘Youth Violence’ and instead use terminology like ‘Violence impacting the Youth’ ~ Everything will not only fall into perspective easier, but social ills will be a lot easier to target and combat🐾 #changingtheconversation

It is an absolute honour to work with such dedicated and compassionate people @GM_VRU The half day hope hack in Forest Bank prison last week was epic. So tough seeing young people incarcerated like this though. 50 kids from poorest areas around the North West all with similar stories to tell. The adult establishment must do better in tackling structural deficiencies that leave young people such tough terrain to navigate and go the full nine yards to support those coming out of places like Forest Bank @HopeCollective2 #LegacyOfHope

Doing some personal research into police mistrust issue and how I can do justice to @TaylorOBE last request of me. Bust the mistrust he said! Use the 25th anniversary as a stick to beat them with. All those on all sides who stand in way of progress. More kids than ever are carrying knives sadly vast majority out of fear with no criminal intent whatsoever. Sadly they don’t feel they can trust the police to keep them safe and with further cuts to police numbers they’ll rarely see police in their areas anyway unless as a response to crime. How do we address this? We need to start with honest candid conversations and the carriages of injustice carried out against black community need to be out in the open and not swept under carpet. There’s too many. Far too many! Fresh slate? Can we imagine such a thing? Certainly if we want to stop kids carrying knives in vulnerable communities we need to!! news.npcc.police.uk/releases/young… Then we need to innovate. Innovate not just stay on the treadmill to nowhere the funding orgs have charity sector trundling along on!! I see the shit Andy @andygeorgeni gets on here from white & even black ex cops occasionally. All for trying to bring the institutional racism issue to a close within the police. If can’t get that bit right what chance mistrust with young people from an over worked and under resourced MPS? As I say it’s complex and multi layered I’m on @10DowningStreet Knife crime task force. Government has pledged to cut knife crime incidents by half in ten years. I think this can be achieved far quicker or else it’s a total pipe dream!! 36 Hope Hacks across the UK we know what a sizeable proportion of young people think will reduce knife carrying londonnewsonline.co.uk/news/young-peo… Watching the usual suspects sat on news channels talking up their investments and projects NEEDS are we rarely hear truth. Knife carrying and extreme violence are sadly now a fact of life in poor communities. Hugely complex set of ingredients led to kids killing kids becoming a social norm. Things on end of our noses we didn’t talk about. Roles of marketing by big brands let along social media and other negative influencers Until we accept its out of control we have no chance of getting it back under control we have zero chance of dealing with it. I think we can. It starts with truth When Damilola Taylor was killed on November 27th 2000 it made news all over the world. Kids just didn’t kill kids in a modern western City like London It happened shortly after @ken4london was voted in as London Mayor and policing powers were devolved #Damilola25

I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it, from my perspective, as Police and Crime Commissioner, if we want to prevent and tackle crime and ASB, it’s absolutely essential we believe in, engage with, listen to, work with and, importantly, invest in our young people.
West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership@WestMidsVRP

We had a diverse range of partners and organisations help bring #HopeHack33 to life. So much learning to take away about making policing more inclusive for our young people. Let's keep the conversation going! #MyTomorrow @Hopecollective2 @ChairHC @WestMidsPCC @PositiveYouthUK
