I get asked a lot about how I design #ThinkingClassroom lessons. Where do I get started? And I think this image from a talk @ddmeyer gave at @OAMEcounts in Kingston is where I get started. What "fake" math can you get your students to do that involves "real" work?

Played some basketball with the old dads tonight and felt pretty good! Had a few points, a few rebounds, and a whole bunch of assists.

I’m always conflicted by these types of videos. It’s the struggle between “do we teach the concept” or “do we teach the ‘hack’”. As a kid I was all about the shortcut. I want to know how to get the answer, that’s it. I could care less about the “concept”. As an educator, idk

I was not a good high school student — my mother died the summer before my 9th grade year, and I really struggled. I got suspended often for fighting, for yelling at teachers. Not a lot of people in the building believed in me.

@mrccheney Today I had a student come up to me and apologize for his and his peer’s actions in a class I OT’ d for last year. It’s amazing how much they will remember you, even if you don’t think you did a great job! What matters most is they knew you were there for them.

I often share the wins in this space, but today is a loss.
As an occasional teacher, I couldn't find the flow or a groove for the class. I shifted, twirled and pivoted to try and ignite curiosity and learning, but it all flopped.
I feel like I failed those students today.

Thanks to @GallivanMaggie & Colleen for organizing tonight's parent engagement night! @jbonhamcarter and I did a Q&A, we heard the band perform (and got to play instruments for a minute ourselves), and did a surprisingly easy and creative paint project! @FSSprops @ModuleAcadie
