I don’t normally post anything on here except to celebrate my students but this is important.

One of my favorite traditions around this time is our thankful posters. Students decide on an adult in the building to write to. It brings lots of cheer and happiness to everyone! It’s a great way to end the week before fall break! #fcs #thankful @OPS_BryanMiddle

Thank you Omaha Chamber Music Society! Concert today for 100 orchestra students at Bryan MS! They loved it and one student told me after, “Viola is the greatest”. Yes. Yes it is. @OPS_BryanMiddle

@jo_benincasa @JayWamsted My kids love what I teach, but it takes a huge amount of effort from a team of dedicated people to get them there because there is absolutely no instant gratification about it. Sorry you had such a bad time in school.

@MrSemar @JayWamsted Teenagers are aren’t apathetic. They are apathetic about school. They’re not interested in what you’re trying to teach. That you don’t realize that is why you have the problem and what I am trying to solve. Human beings learn what interests them. That’s why you’re failing.

This contingent of folks who want to make all school decisions based upon how the teenagers “feel about it” seems pretty disconnected from the teenagers I’ve known. They’re not exactly famous for long-term thinking Of course feelings matter. But it’s our job to help guide them

@jo_benincasa @JayWamsted We’re out here just trying to teach kids and not only do we have to face general teenage apathy we also have to fight whatever this take is.

@JayWamsted You actually miss what we are saying. "School decisions." If the first decision isn't "Do I want to go to school at all?" then you are just talking about making decisions for prisoners and deciding how much choice they get.
