Quote heard in the school library today by Maia one of our new S1 pupils " I don't know which book to choose because there are so many good ones." It's times like that that I love my job! #weareFHS

A brilliant day working with teachers in the American School of Tangier, Morocco! We explored a broad range of pedagogical themes, including presenting content, success criteria, practice, feedback and questioning. An extremely friendly and engaging audience to work with 😊

I’ve attended a cycling event in an attempt to address fitness concerns & get back into cycling. I’ve not gone with friends, as I need to preserve dignity in infirmity. I’ve all the gear & a saddle bag of sweets. Sadly, as the 25k event is full of kids, I look like a predator.

Air pollution in UK now kills 30,000 people and costs £27bn a year, the research, also said there was no safe level of air pollutants. The figure could even be significantly higher – up to £50bn – if dementia taken into account. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Every time you see how much the Dutch🇳🇱 invest in cycling, remember that the societal benefits outweigh this by far! Annually: 💰🚲 €510 million (€30 per capita) 👩‍⚕️🩺 €19 billion in health savings alone (Daphne Schippersbrug in #Utrecht)

Two years ago today I published this article making the case for phone-freee schools. The case is far stronger today, now that so many schools are getting great results, esp. hearing noise and laughter in the hallways again. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

Imagine if we made it an easy, everyday choice for everyone. Less people needing the NHS is how you save it for the long term. theguardian.com/society/2025/j…

@TwentySeven11 @MrShortFHS_sci @iain_smellie If you've seen the videos of people dissolving the aluminium of the can to expose the plastic "bag", they leave the top attached, so I don't know if it's lined too. I wonder if the underside of the top is just lacquered and maybe there are pinholes. Any sign of damage there?

@irnbru⁩ …. Out of date by 4years! Any chemical explanation? The fizz is still there. I used it as a visual aid for the start of chemical equilibrium…. My S2 class made me open it!

@iain_smellie @AlchemistAngus @TwentySeven11 I don't know, but if I had just seen Blair's decolourised bottle In Bru I would have thought it was probably light degrading the dye, which I think is the orange ponceau. My can juice did look a bit yellow, but that might just be sugar! The can also has a plastic lining.

@AlchemistAngus @TwentySeven11 @MrShortFHS_sci Do you think the glass absorbs any UV light that does occasionally manage to get to the bottle? I can’t remember if they sell the 1901 version in plastic bottles, I’ve definitely seen it in cans.
