Beautiful examples of how writing is an integrative pursuit rather than isolated activities as outlined in DE’s Literary Framework 👌.

A fantastic SLT conversation as we explored teacher agency using the work of @SCottinghatt and considering adaptive expertise alongside @HughesHaili and Adam Kohlbeck. @MissCole279 and I were asking the following question. How do we balance consistency with teacher autonomy? On one hand, consistency matters. It creates clarity for students which reduces cognitive load and ensures equity across classrooms. No student should feel their experience depends entirely on which class they’re in. But on the other hand, teacher agency is not a “nice to have” it’s essential. Teachers are making hundreds of in-the-moment decisions. This is where we discussed the difference between strategic and responsive checking for understanding. The goal isn’t to choose one over the other. It’s to design our teaching and learning strategy so that it allows for both.

No words for what we have achieved at @AvroFC the resilience and strength goes through the club DNA. The amount of ex-players there today speaks volumes for the club we have. We are looked down on and disrespected by many but we keep doing what we do. What a club 🖤💙

Gave this to my class today with no explanation to see if they could match an emoji to a sentence. It only clicked for a few of them until I explained: an adult represents a main clause (can stand alone) and a child a subordinate clause (is dependent on the “adult”/main clause).

I think if this approach was our firm default, people wouldn’t conflate ‘being observed’ with ‘getting feedback’ and we’d see observation and feedback in an entirely different light. >>> Lesson feedback: don't send it, don't give it - co-construct it. Otherwise, it won't be worth it. teacherhead.com/2024/01/28/les… via @teacherhead

3 quick checks that actually work: 1️⃣ Retrieval practice warm-ups 2️⃣ Turn & teach a partner 3️⃣ Targeted exit tickets The key: Ask one clear question, not vague reflection. Small checks → big learning gains. More classroom strategies ↓ mrshowell24.substack.com/p/3-checks-for…
