Many, if not most aspects, of what generally makes a man attractive in dating/relationships are still traditionally masculine in a Western sense. The ethics and values that found these are echoed throughout the thinkings and teachings of Western philosophers going back to ancient Rome and Greece Unfortunately, both the conservative, manosphere types and the urban, soyboy-ish types fail to grasp this basic concept. The former take a new, ethically bankrupt, epistemologically ill-founded, and egoist perversion of these values, while the latter reject them altogether in a way that's often both unattractive and still self-serving. Both fail to realize that most of these timeless masculine ethics can be adapted in a way that's both fairly apolitical and alluring These "timeless masculine ethics" largely consist of some interplay between the following: 1. Stoicism, mindfulness, and temperance 2. Empathy and compassion 3. Courage and justice 4. Integrity and accountability 5. Wisdom and intelligence Really, how can that be summarized in one phrase? "Be a good person."

Department head said that would "damage program reputation and university revenue" So they keep taking tuition money from kids who will graduate into a wasteland Career services still posts those bullshit salary averages from 2022 when new grads were getting $140k offers Now the same companies are hiring 2 senior engineers with AI tools instead of 12 junior developers Every CS professor knows their students are walking into a meat grinder But the university needs those enrollment numbers to hit budget targets They're literally selling degrees that lead to DoorDash driving

AI is being used to slash headcounts and push a higher work intensity and more responsibilities upon less people. Or at least that's what the managerial and executive classes are hoping it does. 🤷‍♂️

I blame social media for redefining the socioeconomic and status hierarchy in the eyes of many young folks. I don't think there's ever been this level of disrespect and disdain for careers that are more intrinsically driven and less glamorizable

@Patrickwebb The point is certainly not that they didn't need to work as hard—they probably worked as hard (sometimes more). Rather, they actually had better results and easier lives as a result of that work, while as of late, young people aren't getting the results from their hard work
