#BREAKING #SupremeCourt refuses to pass interim order to permit Namaz in Kamal Maula Masjid/ #Bhojshala. SC directs MP Govt to make available an open space, adjacent to the site, for Muslims to offer Namaz on Fridays. Muslims have been offering prayers here for 700 years.

This is exactly what has occurred in India. Turks changed the Perso-Arabic script to Latin & also changed the pronunciation of some words by getting rid of non-native sounds. Likewise in India, most can’t read the Urdu script & we struggle with pronouncing non-Indic letters ق غ خ

Whatever respect and international recognition Urdu has in the world is because it has a country that uses it as a national language, that being Pakistan. Had India not been partitioned, then it would've probably suffered a fate akin to Ottoman Turkish.

@Justice_justuju @mazameen001 Yes, specially the ones who r not educated. I hear a lot of "sahbaj" "mustaak" "arjoo" Whatever urdu is alive is due to shero shayri, madrassas and private tutoring that people did for their children (as is the case for mid classes like me)

Urdu is a Pakistani language. This is not what I think, but rather what most of the world thinks. Urdu is dying out even among Indian Muslims, any cursory glance at social media shows that most Urdu content is produced by Pakistanis while many Indian Muslims use Hindi.

No ASI members were cross-examined. The ASI's 2003 order was under challenge. Earlier, Muslims were permitted to offer Friday prayers and pray on Tuesdays when the site was not being used for Hindu prayers. Suddenly, the High Court has nullified all of this. How can this happen? We submit that the writ petition itself could not have been entertained. The writ is not maintainable at all in this case.

If reports about Gujarat State Intelligence Bureau's purported Anti-Radicalisation SOP are true, the implications are deeply disturbing. Ordinary religious practices cannot become grounds for police suspicion. Reports suggest that ordinary religious practices and identity markers - such as wearing a niqab, growing a beard, using Arabic expressions, reacting to global events affecting Muslims, visiting mosques and madrasas marked as sensitive, etc. - could attract police profiling. Counter-terrorism must be evidence-based, not faith-based. Wrote to Gujarat Chief Minister @Bhupendrapbjp urging that, if such provisions are indeed in force, they must be kept in abeyance and reviewed to ensure full conformity with the Constitution. The Constitution admits no room for suspicion based on faith.
