Beyond grateful for our partnership w/ the @CityofGCKS , giving Ss the opportunity to ask tough questions, digging into finances, development, and policies, and realizing that their voices do matter and there are current pathways to local participatory citizenship!

Don’t worry —this is also my argument on how we need to start reallocating teacher workday time. After talking with a few state representatives it sounds like the window of opportunity for that policy to be changed is in the near future 🎤 😉

So, if states with fewer hours rank higher, where’s the ROI in adding more time? Is the issue really about hours, or is it about how that time is used? Before we start cutting breaks or stretching the calendar, maybe we should ask is it the seat time or quality instruction?

@KsCommissioner let’s 👀 at the numbers ▶️ KS requires 1,116 instructional hours ▶️ Top 12 ranked states in education (@USNewsEducation) average 1,033 hours—less than Kansas, depended on your school = 10/11 days of school ▶️Despite this, KS ranks 13th right behind those states

…& this is why I don’t want to talk about the teacher eval. system It’s broken. It’s not supposed to be a got-cha & you have x weeks to fix it. if it’s a skill it needs time to be coached and developed. It would take admin to be apart of the PLC, panning & teaching process

Holding students to expectations isn’t unfair. Enforcing rules isn’t ‘picking on’ someone. The real issue is when accountability is mistaken for persecution.

Leaders have a ethical responsibility to be hard in those issues that are shown to affect student learning (Eaker & Keating 2012) 🎤 Absolute hill I will ☠️ on.
