Best way to wrap up our last IB unit - Marketplace! After learning about goods, services, bartering, trading, and scarcity, we got to create an art studio with our own goods and services! They also got to spend “money” at other first grade businesses! Such a great experience!🎨

Fridays with friends 🌸 We wrapped up our week spending time on the nature trail and enjoying Fellowship Friday.

We wrapped up our “How the World Works” unit by building model playgrounds! Students built slides, swings, seesaws, and more to show their understanding of forces! 🛝

So many fun investigations happening in our IB unit “How the World Works”! Today we explored ramps and how the height of the ramp impacts speed and distance.

For the past week first grade classes have been building habitat murals displaying animals, plants, and shelters of a specific habitat. Today we got to take a tour of all the habitats. So much creativity and hard work!

Our P2 trait this week is humility. We practiced exercising humility during our morning meeting today by playing rock, paper, scissors! No matter the outcome, we worked on finding ways to stay humble 🪨 📝 ✂️

These IB learners have been researching the plants that grow in a tropical grassland. Today we started constructing them to add to our habitat mural! 🌳🌱🌾

These readers have been working so hard on their fluency! We’ve been using repeated readings to make us stronger readers! 📚 💪🏻

Celebrating 101 days of learning in 1st grade!! 🐾

These mathematicians added a little reading into their small group today. They built a nonsense word with “scrabble” tiles and then had to use the numbers in a 3 addend equation!

Bookcases, rugs, boards, tables… these kiddos measured it all today! They chose a nonstandard tool, made an estimation, and measured to find out if they were right! 📏 #liveyourexcellence @WHE_Whiskers

Started off our measurement unit by exploring the importance of using appropriate tools for measuring. Today we figured out that our feet are all different sizes which leads to different measurements. While it was fun, we learned feet aren’t the best tool for measuring! 👣

We had the best time celebrating our “How We Express Ourselves” unit with holiday crafts from around the world! A perfect way to wrap up before winter break! ❄️

We had the best time exploring soil today! We learned about the different layers of soil, drew a diagram, and created our own edible soil (definitely their favorite part!)🪱 🌱 @WHE_Whiskers

Today we had an inquiry into the best way to count large numbers (using candy corn or course!). Turns out, counting by tens is the most efficient way! 🎃
