🧵It's so important to get out & see practice beyond your own setting. If we never see what's out there then we can stymy moving forward & have a potentially skewed view of great practice. If you only ever see your own setting, you're simultaneously the best & worst you'll ever see

Walked my Y5 son to school today. A new EYFS little boy started shouting my son's name excitedly, & proudly telling his dad, "There's my big friend!" Turns out Y5s are helping the new EYFS in the hall at lunchtime. Another example of a small thing for a big sense of belonging.

IT’S HERE! The Writing Framework has landed! 🚨 IT’S A BELTER! A powerful blend of explanation and practical advice for teaching writing, both transcription and composition. “The best moments during writing are when pupils are so absorbed in their creations that they lose all sense of time, and when they read what they have written and experience the thrill of creating with words and language.” Explicit instruction, direct deliberate teaching and knowledge pupils need to write with confidence and purpose. It must be TAUGHT not CAUGHT! Writing matters because it cements learning in long term memory. A MUST, MUST read if you want to be a better teacher of writing. A thread 🧵 gov.uk/government/pub…

@Emma_Turner75 @MrDavidScales How can the ‘experts’ ignore child development!? If we haven’t got it right for our youngest learners by the time they are 5, it makes closing the gaps almost impossible and has a significant impact on life outcomes.

@MrDavidScales If it’s a longer term fix then the lens has to be focused initially on exemplary EYFS and KS1. Get that right and that hugely improves future outcomes and ensures what follows is not built on sand. Looking to start at the end of the journey is not the full picture.

If I was Secretary of State for Education and wanted to improve schools and social justice, I would want to hear from the top 20 P8 schools with high disadvantage intakes. I’d also want to see successful turnarounds. Not focus on mediocrity from insiders.
