I’m so proud of my 2nd-3rd gr kiddos who have had to work so hard to learn to read. I wish they had been taught in k-1.
I got all my intervention kiddos a buddy to read to over the summer… and some decodables to do it with!
(My mom took this because she loved this idea.)

I made a short video for parents with tips for reading with their child. I'm planning to show it at Back to School night. Sharing in case anyone else can use it. 😁 youtu.be/CxOCiJ6ApAc
@LindsayKemeny@eswasey6th What decodables do you have to send home? I may be able to get my principal to order more. I usually send paper because I don’t have books. I teach 1st and LOVE it.
@eswasey6th For my 1st graders, I'll be sending 2-3 decodables home on Mondays in a book bag and they return to school on Fridays. I have a tracker with the decodable titles listed and they put a tally mark each time they read it. It's my first time teaching 1st so we'll see how it goes.
@KeepINLearning@modernclassproj@Quigleysclass Thanks for recommending this opportunity! I’m teaching 2 grade levels of math with high ability this year, and I’ve been investigating Modern Classroom Project to make it happen.
"As a teacher I loved using small group & stations, but I always felt like I was reaching to make it more effective. @ModernClassproj helped me put together the pieces!" @QuigleysClass. There are spots in the upcoming cohort. Learn more: modernclassrooms.org/inlead
@mbrusso2 This model is so frustrating. A student can meet district wide assessment benchmarks but not be able to read, and I can only do so much for them. They will not receive additional interventions.
Wait to fail model! I have heard that &said that too sadly...Let's wait and see, they are a summer baby, a boy...
We need to see the red flags and give them evidence-based interventions asap!
@MrsSchmittroom9 Start book clubs or professional article deep dives with colleagues. Share the resources and reflect using the curriculum you have and do a gap analysis. How does your curriculum align w/ research? What story is your data telling? Loop in secondary teachers (backwards design).
It is sad that so many educators have to turn to social media to get professional learning about the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Instructional leadership matters.
