Loudoun County Sheriff's Office
Loudoun County Sheriff's Office@LoudounSheriff·
SCAM ALERT: The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is advising residents of a new law enforcement impersonation scam by individuals posing as members of the LCSO. The caller says to call the agency’s Civil Services Division for more information and provides a telephone number. That call is part of a scam we believe is being orchestrated in another state. Upon learning of the scam from dozens of citizens yesterday, our Financial and Cybercrime Unit shut down the fake number and associated web domains, but it is unknown whether the scam will be resumed in another way. The scam directed citizens to an alleged LCSO voice message asking them to leave their name and telephone number or send an email. Callers would then be contacted by an alleged member of the LCSO, directing them to purchase gift cards to pay pending charges. A portion of the message is provided here so citizens can better understand how the call-back scam begins. Law enforcement will never contact you by telephone asking you to make a payment. If you become a victim of a scam, contact the LCSO immediately at 703-777-1021. Victims can also file a police report online at loudoun.gov/reportonline
