@Jacklyn202015 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Yes! I always tell my students that mistakes make our brain grow! I want them to be okay with making mistakes because they know that they can learn from it. I also agree with you about communication being key in the classroom. I want them to know that they can always count on me!

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I want to make sure my students know that Communication is key in a class and that they can always tell me when things aren't going right or when something happens and that they can always trust me as their teacher. Also I want them to know that we can always learn from mistakes

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I will create a safe and brave space for my students by building rapport, being accepting of ALL, advocating for them, and being present. I would encourage them to use their voice to share their input, to succeed in & out of the classroom, and empower them with positive words!

@JacquelineKMed1 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I agree! We must put ourselves in their shoes to understand how they might be feeling. It's important for teachers to be positive, accepting, and understanding for students to feel safe and not judged. We want students to be able to come to us if they need to feel supported!

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 To have empathy is to understand our students. We can put ourselves in their shoes. Be considerate of their feelings. I think good qualities of being empathic is listening, understanding, being positive, and non judgemental.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Teachers can show empathy by making an effort to understand students' feelings. By actively listening, communicating, and showing respect/warmth towards our students, they are able to notice that we truly care about them. We must model what we want to see in our students!

@SaraRam80937291 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I love the idea of self-advocacy! This is very essential for students to learn at a young age. They need to understand that their voice is valuable, but they must always be kind in the process of standing-up for themselves.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Educators can become knowledgeable of all the possible resources that foster student success in school. Then examine the deficits in students' learning, and address the needs of the students. Teachers can also teach the students self-advocacy.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 As teachers, we can advocate for our students by being their voice when compromising situations arise. We are able to advocate for our students' needs to be met, encourage them to succeed, and provide a safe environment for them to be their best selves without judgment!

@kelilovesteach1 @WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Yes, I agree! It's important for students to understand that there are multiple ways to problem-solve. Also, they need to know that they are able to use whichever strategy works for their understanding and are not required to memorize a specific method. Math anxiety be gone!

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Some reasons that cause math anxiety include timed tests, timed math facts sheets, and the idea that math has fixed procedures and methods that must be followed. Instead, we need to show that math is flexible and that there’s multiple approaches that work.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Math anxiety may be caused by using timed tests for math facts. Some students are slow thinkers that may have the same amount of math fluency as those who are quick to recall math facts. Yet, they get stressed due to not being quick enough = makes them think they are not smart.

@TovarAlexsus @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler Yes! I like the idea of incorporating more math talks with our students. I think this will be beneficial to building their number sense. Also, I believe that using the CRA model is extremely essential because some students may require more time exploring the different stages.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 We can encourage students to use numbers flexibly by incorporating the CRA model. Students benefit from using manipulatives when problem-solving. Also, I would encourage students to share their thinking strategies when problem-solving so that classmates can learn from each other!

@TrevEduc @WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 I agree! Memorization of math facts should not be taught alone. Students should be able to understand WHY different strategies work to solve problems. This will help them in the future with higher math. Also, this will hopefully encourage students not to turn away from math!

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler The memorization of math facts is unnecessary because it doesn't determine students' intelligence. Students often believe that if they are not quick to recall math facts they are not high achievers in math- this is damaging. Instead, students should focus on their math fluency!
