Great news for those using UFLI, an Intervention Placement Test has been released. @UFLiteracy is really the gift that keeps on giving!!! You can also go to their toolbox page and scroll to the bottom to find it. In the meantime, here is a shortcut ufli.education.ufl.edu/wp-content/upl… Thanks to @HollyLanePhD and @burnsmk1 and their team for this wonderful addition to their already amazing program. Not every elementary curriculum is going to have rich academic language threaded throughout the texts and lessons. We have to explicitly teach them. Very good point @smorrisey

Great conversation happening at the Literacy View Podcast! This was a thought-provoking episode with Dr. Phil Capin about reading comprehension and where knowledge building AND strategy instruction play a role. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

Adaptive teaching for multilingual learners isn't about doing more - it's about noticing more. If a student is silent, lost or stuck, don’t assume they don’t understand ➡️respond with scaffolds: visuals, gestures, L1 use, sentence starters. #edutwitter #EAL #multilingual

If you are sacrificing social studies & science instruction in favor of literacy, you are hindering the very background knowledge that strengthens students' reading comp & overall learning, finally not fully supporting their academic growth. #TRLSummit2025 #ReithSmith

🤝 Inclusion isn't just about addressing the needs of marginalized groups or students who need accommodations; it’s about designing classrooms & schools that celebrate all students’ unique identities & backgrounds, & leveraging this diversity as an asset: bit.ly/42lnExJ

Just coming here to say that in order to become proficient readers, all children (regardless of their language status or disability status) need to activate the same areas of the brain. Some confuse this fact with a “one size fits all” approach. If you find yourself among the people who have erroneously interpreted it to mean that, please know that is not what it means. The idea here is that we have to teach using tools and strategies that facilitate and promote the activation of these brain areas and that we ought to abandon those that do not. Think about it like using strategies that allow you to get the biggest bang for your buck. Also, please know that the fact that all reading brains have to activate the same brain regions does not mean we can’t use different scaffolds or focus on additional language layers when working with students who need additional support around specific layers of language (vocabulary, syntax, etc). The more you know 🥰 @CoachGoodman @brett_tingley - Sorry, I had to delete the previous post.. m.youtube.com/watch?pp=2AG-A…
