@MrsMotz186 This is sooo evident when students start to exhibit negative behaviors later in the year when academics start to get more challenging! We've got to make time to focus on social emotional skills!

I completely agree. As a K teacher, I feel that we have gotten too far away from teaching the social/emotional skills because of the increase in academics. I believe tbat this is part of the reason we are seeing an increase in behavioral issues. #edchat #552Bobcat

I think a large amount of emphasis should be placed on building students' Emotional Intelligence (EQ). When students have a high EQ they can adequately express themselves, communicate with others, and thus achieve optimal learning in the classroom. #edchat

@RichtersSarah So true, especially for kiddos with special needs. Somedays a strategy will work perfectly, the next it could blow up in your face!

I have my students use Seesaw to practice reading weekly sight words, spelling words, and sentences. I plug in the words or sentences and they record themselves reading or writing the words. @Seesaw Thanks for being a great resource!

My students love to use Epic! during independent work time! This week, they had to find books on Thanksgiving and write about what they learned. So much fun! #Epic #booksforkids

Teachers, if you've got a collection of tabs on your browser window like I do, this site is worth a spot! It has handy tools such as a timer, stop light, sound level monitor, random name drawing, and more - all on one screen. Check it out! #552Bobcat classroomscreen.com

Today, I taught my students how to add and subtract using touch points. We started our lesson by watching this great video on how to use touch points. Check it out! youtube.com/watch?v=f4VI5T…

My @TEDTalks is live on go.ted.com/sydneyjensen -- I'd love if you'd watch and share if you feel led to. It was truly a labor of love, a cathartic experience, and something that I hope will make a positive impact on the profession that I love so much - teaching.

“SEL is in every setting and interaction. It's part of being human. If things get separated into one space, the work is not happening as effectively as it should." Here’s how to teach social emotional skills in an already crowded school day. edut.to/2O4ZEaj
