Today is my son's 10th birthday so I got up early to celebrate with him. Slipped on the top step and broke my leg 😩 Doing better now, but just a little disappointed they didn't give me a cooler cast.

Tomorrow is the first day of my 26th year at GHS. Feeling like a brand new counselor. Nervous, apprehensive, but excited for the adventure and challenges that this year will most certainly bring!

What a week! So disappointing that we won't see our Ss again in person this school year. I sure miss those kids! We'll all be stronger when it's over, but I have to admit this remote 'teaching' is pretty tough. I hope my teacher friends are getting some rest this weekend!

A lot of educators will be starting online teaching/remote learning this week. For those of us who are in our 2nd (if not 3rd) week: what advice would you give to educators starting this week? #OnlineTeachingAdvice

@DJFTLL @ScottRRocco It's simple. I create them based on what we do each week & try to include some SEL topics. I send them via email/weekly newsletter. Ex: "I heard you learned about similes today. Can you tell me about them?" "Did you do anything nice today? Did anyone do anything nice for you?"

Q3: Not all parents can make a face to face meeting. What ways have you, your school, or your district meaningful engaged parents who can't make a meeting? #satchat

@rachelsvec @ScottRRocco I know that when I'd ask my kids what they did in school that day, I'd usually hear "nothing" or "I don't know." Now, I share this with parents at our Back to School Night, and they all laugh because all kids do it! The conversation starters can make a big difference.

@rachelsvec @ScottRRocco Sometimes it's as simple as "Ask your child about our cloud experiment" or "Who did you sit next to at lunch today?" Others might be "Did anything feel challenging today in reading?" "I heard you were learning about quadrilaterals today. Can you tell me something about them?"

@emilylahredu Family game nights sound like fun! Reminds me that we had a Math Night once at a 99 Restaurant. Kids played math games while eating snacks w parents & teachers. It was a great way to build relationships & engage families in the learning. We should probably do that again! #satchat

A2. We have multiple family nights, family game nights, events and groups that Ps can get involved with. We also work a lot in the community in various ways to support everyone and engage those within it. There is always more that can be done though. #satchat

@ScottRRocco We've held evening workshops to engage families. Teachers worked with parents who enjoyed learning about what we do in school. Unfortunately, attendance was never as high as we would have liked! #satchat
