Was parenting better in the 1970s compared to today? Do modern U.S. playgrounds inspire creativity and courage? Does overprotective parenting cause anxiety? My 7th-graders discussed these ideas and more during today’s Socratic seminar. @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad

We’ve reached the time of year when students can take over my role in grammar practice. (They say “slay” much more than I do while teaching.) @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad

By this time in the school year, 7th-graders are totally ready for a big group project and the collaboration and communication required. Today they’re beginning the brainstorming process for mystery short stories. Engagement is high. @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad

What happened to D.B. Cooper? Or the people aboard the Mary Celeste? How did those Easter Island statues get moved into place? Did the Alcatraz escapees survive? 7th-graders have theories! Their products are on display in the @FISD_PearsonMS library. @FISDAdvAcad

Me: Absolutely!

My 7th-graders cheered every time we read a chapter from Ghost, and they were disappointed when we finished. They are big @JasonReynolds83 fans and were excited to create these one-pagers about the novel, exploring theme, character development and writing style. @FISD_PearsonMS

How do you become a better writer? Keep writing.
Students recently crafted personal mission statements (top photo). Today they offered peer feedback on our first big project (bottom photo).
