Spring Break is actually a great time to build executive functioning skills at home. These skills (planning, organization, time management, emotional regulation, etc.) develop through real-life experiences, not worksheets. Here are simple activities parents can try 👇

Montessori recognized that the adolescent desire to be valuable in their community through meaningful work is a critical developmental need. Without support, it can atrophy. When teens seem lazy, the real issue is often that nobody gave them anything worth engaging with.

The purpose of education is to inspire the desire for learning in students and make them able to think, understand, and question.

I couldn’t see how anyone could be educated by this self-propagating system in which people pass exams, and teach others to pass exams, but nobody knows anything.

So excited to land my first large contract as an independent business! So far, most of my work has been focused on individual students and families, and content creation. But as of today, I will be working with a large private school in OKC during this upcoming school year on helping them develop their understanding of executive functioning and supporting them in laying the foundations for sustainable EF and study skills programming!

If the educational system doesn’t start worrying about the mental health needs of teachers and administrators…. This “teacher shortage” isn’t gonna be anything compared to what’s coming… #Edutwitter

After presenting on asset-based language to my colleagues, I received this thoughtful handwritten note. I am so grateful for the work I get to do in advocating for our students and inclusive practices. I’m always happy to collaborate and help where I can, and I love hearing from other educators that want to learn and grow!

To every kid with a learning disability: don’t let anyone — not even the President of the United States — bully you. Dyslexia isn’t a weakness. It’s your strength.

If you’re a parent or teacher: Which executive function skill do you see kids struggle with the most? • Time management • Task initiation • Organization • Emotional regulation • Something else? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Executive functioning skills develop slowly over time and are strengthened through everyday life. Spring break doesn’t need to be perfectly structured. But small opportunities to plan, organize, problem solve, and reflect make a huge difference.
