Academic Pentathlon is in full prep mode for Regionals! 💪📚 Today we tackled a full practice math test and followed it up with peer tutoring sessions. One of my favorite moments? Watching our older teammates step up to teach Algebra and Trigonometry concepts to our younger scholars. Leadership. Collaboration. Mastery. This is what team excellence looks like. 🏆✨ @TAGinPG @DrReyC @disdactivities @Mrs_Cortez12 #Region4SayNoMore #AcademicPentathlon #StudentLeadership #MathMasters #RegionalsReady

My STAAR Simulator Review Day doesn’t look the same for every student — and that’s the point. Each student analyzed their own data and built a personalized 3-week review plan based on their specific gaps and goals. When I walk around the room, every screen tells a different story: 📊 Some are grinding through IXL skill strands tied to their weakest SEs. 🎥 Some are rewatching Crash Course History or clips from John Adams to rebuild conceptual understanding. 📝 Some are using Review Mode Google Form quizzes that reteach immediately when they miss a question. 📚 Some are deep in class website readings, vocabulary study, and scaffolded notes. 🧠 Some are tackling STAAR released items and pushing their stamina and strategy. It’s quiet. It’s focused. It’s intentional. There’s something powerful about peering over their shoulders and seeing ownership in action — not because I told them what to review, but because they know what they need. This is what test prep should look like. Not panic. Not packets. Not one-size-fits-all. Ownership! @DrReyC @TAGinPG #Region4SayNoMore

My NJHS students showed the true meaning of service this week. They came together to “adopt” five children’s Christmas wishlists and collected gifts for families in need, making sure parents could wrap and give them during the holidays. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do — their kindness, teamwork, and pride in serving others is something special. And believe it or not, this photo is only some of what they gathered! 💙🎁✨ @TAGinPG @DrReyC #Region4SayNoMore #NJHS

📚 “Abhorred monster!” took on new meaning today in 8th grade RLA! Students paraphrased key dialogue from Frankenstein to explore the complex relationship between creator and creation. Their discussions about responsibility, rejection, and humanity were incredible. Taking on 8th grade RLA in addition to my US History classes has challenged me in all the best ways—seeing students bring classics to life reminds me why I love teaching! #Region4SayNoMore @TAGinPG @DrReyC

Retrieval in action 🧠 Over the past few lessons, students engaged in multiple retrieval-based activities on the 7 Principles of Government. From applying concepts with guided notes to sorting excerpts and scenarios, they continuously revisited and refined their understanding. Retrieval practice isn’t about memorization—it’s about strengthening connections in long-term memory. Each time students recall and apply information, their retention and transfer of knowledge grow stronger. Through these collaborative and reflective tasks, students had the space to self-correct, discuss misconceptions, and confidently demonstrate mastery—proving that learning happens most powerfully when students think deeply, not just review. @TAGinPG @DrReyC #Region4SayNoMore #RetrievalPractice #SocialStudies #ActiveLearning #CognitiveScience

This quarter’s review really took off! Teams had to think fast, answer right, and fly their drones to the correct spot. My 7th Grade Texas History class @TAGinPG buzzed with energy as teams discussed, strategized and cheered to be first. Learning took flight! What you see in these photos is not something I prompted. One student noticed two of her peers struggling and, without hesitation, stepped in to support while I was working with another group. At the same time, across the room, some students were still processing their success criteria notes while another student knew exactly how to push herself further by opening up the IXL practice for the lesson. This is the classroom culture I strive to build every day: one where students understand that growth doesn’t look the same for everyone, and where they feel empowered to take ownership of their learning. Some are reviewing and clarifying, others are advancing beyond the minimum expectations, and some are helping their peers rise up. Creating this type of autonomy takes intentional work, but it pays off. Students know they are responsible for their own learning journeys, and they also understand the value of lifting others along the way. Every student deserves the chance to grow, and every classroom should be a place where differentiation is the norm, collaboration is celebrated, and respect is the foundation. @TAGinPG @DrReyC @AP_Pegues #Region4SayNoMore #Differentiation #StudentVoice #Collaboration #ClassroomCulture
