Every day Early Reading Coaches share stories and work with educators to center joy in reading and work to mitigate disproportionate outcomes. Today, we went to the board meeting to share our story. Thank you to all the trustees who listened and thanked us for the work we do!

Grade 1/2 students at Broadacres read the book “This is How I Know” by Brittany Luby. They talked about Indigenous languages and ways of knowing about seasons. They worked together to create paintings showing how they know seasons are changing! @ChrisLanis @LC1_TDSB @UIEC_Tdsb

Children in FDK at Eatonville responded to the book “My Heart Fills With Happiness” using loose parts. They made lots of connections between the book and Valentine’s Day. Great oral language and lots of joyful learning! @EatonvilleJS @LC1_TDSB @EarlyYearsTDSB

Children at Parkfield JS used sound boxes and grapheme tiles to make sense of common spelling patterns for the long a sound. @EarlyYearsTDSB @LC1_TDSB @TDSB_SLP

FDK and Grade 1 children at Westway used sound boxes, word chains and decodable texts to build their reading skills. So proud of all the words they can read!! @EarlyYearsTDSB @westwayjs

The children in both FDK FI classes at Broadacres read the beautiful Indigenous book, “Quand on etait seuls”. After reading, they used loose parts to create images of things that make them feel connected to their families. @EarlyYearsTDSB @ChrisLanis @LC1_TDSB

Grade 1/2 children at Parkfield shared their responses to the beautiful book “My Heart Fills With Happiness” by Monique Gray Smith. Using loose parts and rich oral language, children shared their thinking about happiness. @EarlyYearsTDSB @LC1_TDSB

FDK children at @ecoleelmleajs were engaged in problem solving while playing with cars. Rich discussions and access to materials resulted in parking spots, yellow dividing lines and even speed bumps! @EarlyYearsTDSB

FDK students loved reading this beautiful book by Cree-Métis author Julie Flett. They moved like animals, learned new vocabulary and engaged in interactive writing using their letter-sound knowledge. @EarlyYearsTDSB @UIEC_Tdsb @ChrisLanis
