The political and media class is complicit in this racist, Islamophobic violence. They stoke division because they don’t want us to remember this truth: the enemy of the working class travels by private jet, not migrant dinghy. Me for the @guardian: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

This is really inspirational @bphillipsonMP . And, goodness me, we have waited so long to be inspired!

Our work at @educationgovuk is already underway. We’re resetting the relationship between the government and those working in education. Together, we’ll deliver change: the best start in life for every child, high & rising standards and a country where background is no barrier.

This is true of doctors, of teachers, of social workers, of nurses - any public service profession. It is not just about money - although that is important. It’s about the lack of respect and autonomy that doctors, teachers, social workers and nurses experience…..

Ridiculous: @RishiSunak is refusing to rule out raising the retirement age to pay for his NI cut. Sign the petition and tell him not to make us work longer to pay for his plan: 38d.gs/f4ef

Our union is 75% women. The rocketing workloads and pay erosion are underpinned by this government fundamentally devaluing women's work. Too many women in education are forced to go part time to work full time as education is a profession no longer compatible with family life. I want us to change that. A special shout out to support staff members this #IWD24 - a workforce of 98% women. You are underpaid and over worked - but we all know you are the life blood of every school and college. Make sure you've voted YES to action on funding and pay. We can change things together.

A 2% cut to National Insurance at a time when every public service is at breaking point is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Most people will barely benefit at all.

I don't want lower taxes. I want hospital beds. Trains that run on time. Kids who aren't too hungry to learn. Libraries in every town. Rivers that don't run with slurry. Local councils not forced into bankruptcy. Politicians who don't venally line their own pockets.

So, if you want to trade numbers……There are now a million more children in schools than there were in 2010. That is 37 extra pupils for every teacher. England now has one of the highest class sizes in the OECD.
Damian Hinds@DamianHinds

There are now 27,000 more teachers than in 2010. Today, we're launching our Teacher Degree Apprenticeship and I'm excited to seeing the next generation of teaching apprentices enter our brilliant workforce.
