Well, the item on #liveline criticising denominational schools was totally one-sided. What a surprise. (Now, how about having three defenders of denominational schools on tomorrow with only softball questions?) @rteliveline

@Ms_Ali_B @DavQuinn @rteliveline So the majority of parents who want a denominational education for their children have to have their choices denied to appease the minority.. And yes many parents have to opt their children out of gender indoctrinating ideology don't see any media coverage of that

@AnnOnAMouse22 @AislingAon @Independent_ie @SocDems I shouldn’t engage but… You have the proclamation on your profile pic but don’t seem to be aware of the constitutional rights being violated by making opted out children remain in the classroom? They ARE removed for SPHE if the parent wishes.

@IrelandMeda @Independent_ie This makes no sense. Parents cannot choose something when it is the only option for most. If 90% of schools are Catholic are they all the best? Where is your critical thinking?

@Independent_ie No one forces anyone to attend a catholic school but most want to because they have a great reputation.

All divestments of school, or lack thereof should be put to a vote of all parents of the students within a particular school. Not decided by witchlike pseudo-aristocratic anti Catholic bigots like Jen Cummings. The democratic part of Social Democracy means very little it seems, a bit like the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea

@AislingAon @Independent_ie @SocDems Let’s see how quickly this comes into affect when they realise they ie govt don’t own the physical schools - let them build schools if they don’t want catholic ones . Next it’ll be no churches ie her phrase “at home “

@AislingAon @Independent_ie @SocDems Patronage of a few schools ≠ parents. Religion being part of the school curriculum is not appropriate. Opt your child in to religious indoctrination by all means, but the class should take place either before or after the regular school day. Making all kids sit thru it is wrong

@Independent_ie Parents were consulted on whether they want the patronage of their children's schools to change from Catholic or not. PARENTS said no. But that's the @SocDems for you - attack Catholicism, always, regardless of what stakeholders actually want. And what about Muslim schools?🤔

@fintancox Are all the non Muslim parents in Saudi Arabia calling for it? Is Saudi Arabia - a theocracy - where Ireland, a secular Republic, should set its bar? Religion should be opt in in state-funded schools. It’s not much to ask. It’s how it is in most Catholic majority countries

@DavQuinn Thus inclined christians can still stay out of the pubs if they wish. No one is forcing anyone in. Why must everyone observe your religious obligations? Ireland is a secular republic.

Opening the pubs on #GoodFriday stripped Ireland of another bit of cultural distinctiveness. It was a grubby, materialistic, crass thing to do dressed up in the clothes of 'progress'.

@kenoflynnTD Oh FFS! Have you no actual work to do? Have these “families” nothing else to concern them? It’s a joke - women go free so man dresses up as woman to get in. I couldn’t be less offended. Tragic for a TD to waste time on this

Today I wrote formally to the Board of the Zoological Society of Ireland, which operates Dublin Zoo, regarding their Mother’s Day promotion. Many families contacted me expressing genuine offence at the decision to present a drag performance character as the public face of a celebration dedicated to mothers. Mother’s Day is about recognising mothers. The women who carried children, raised families and made sacrifices across a lifetime. Dublin Zoo is one of Ireland’s most prominent family institutions. Decisions taken by such institutions carry cultural meaning and responsibility. In media coverage the zoo claimed this performer represents a “light-hearted celebration of Irish culture”. I have asked the Board to explain exactly what they mean by that and how this decision was reached. I have also asked whether the Board accepts that many mothers and families feel this promotion trivialised motherhood and whether an apology is now warranted. Public institutions must be prepared to explain their decisions when those decisions cause legitimate public concern. The full letter has been sent to the Board of the Zoological Society of Ireland today. #MothersDay #RespectMothers #Ireland #Family

@Independent_ie And his reference to being a bouncy castle catholic without an iota of awareness of the impact this has on non religious children, forced to twiddle thumbs for weeks, while teachers spend teaching time preparing kids, most of whom never see inside a church, for their ‘big day’ 🤮
